Tell your AD you went grey?

Would you share this info if you bought a hard to find piece? Would it damage the relationship?

was it a watch you had previously requested for? if anything it proves that you really wanted the watch and were indeed not looking to flip for a profit.

FHB and Friedman talked about the "secondary" market as an alternative for those who can't get the watches they want from AP directly. So at least at that level, they won't hold it against you if you buy what the boutique can't deliver.

OTOH, if you buy a CODE grey to save vs retail, I doubt that would help getting a RO from the boutique.

What would be the point in sharing your spending/buying habits with complete strangers whose goal is to sell you something?

My SA at AP told me that sometimes he uses the fact that a customer bought a watch preowned as evidence that they are not a flipper/really love the brand when they are trying to allocate them another hard to get piece. I would not have a problem sharing that with my SA if it’s a watch they were not successful in allocating me

Go grey if you're in a hurry to start off and can get something at a currently reasonable price

It’s nobody business but yours. Don’t let anyone shames you for who you love. You do you, my dude.

Edit. Sorry I misread, “You went GREY”

I got my 26315st from a grey dealer as my first AP purchase and that watch was on my “wish list” at the boutique. I needed a 1.5 link so I called up my SA and told her I bought the watch from a friend, and need an extension and to add the watch to my profile. She did ask where I purchased it and told me congratulations, but didn’t say anything negative. A couple of weeks later my green 26238ti arrived at the boutique. Coincidence? Maybe or maybe she knew I was a real collector since I bought my ROC over msrp. Either way I was happy to finally get a boutique purchase under my belt and start my relationship with them.
