How are you guys handling it if you were to have to file a claim on a watch that is no longer being made and the replacement value due to the secondary market is through the roof.............say a Hulk for instance? Many of you all have watches that basically cant be replaced and I have a couple myself and just wanted to make sure I am covered in the worst case scenerio.

This thread is old but not obsolete.. I insured 4 of my watches and wifey ring thru my home insurance.. but only lil down side is that they only insure retail value not market value ..but I'm ok with that ..small annually fee for big peace of mind

How does Hodinkee Insurance let you self attest?
What if you put some vastly inflated value for a completely aftermarket blinged out Rolex? |

Yes... insured last night with Hodinkee... $132/yr for 12K coverage on my 124060... I have several more that I will switch over from my homeowners when their policies expire. Zero deductible for theft, loss or damage.

Hodinkee quoted me $555/yr for two sports Rolexes at $33K value. This seems a wee bit high, no?

"As for insurance, if your watch is insured and appraised correctly, it can be sourced within a day" This is a quote from another thread.
That would mean grey market . I just insured my wifes new DJ for what I paid msrp. Replacement tomorrow means closer to 10K. When you appraise a Rolex, will they insure it for current grey market replacement value ?

Yes - all are as scheduled items on my HO policy. I've never had to make a claim, and keep my fingers crossed that it remains that way...

FWIW, Hodinkee raised my rates when I moved to Florida. Insurance isn't cheap, but neither are those huge gun safes mentioned on this thread, and there is no safe that can't be broken into or dragged away, or opened by you if a perp has a gun to your head. A safe is telling people there's lots of valuables in there. |

It's not necessary to me, but you can still get it insured if you find it necessary.
