I’d take the annual payments. The fact that 97% of the money remains unpaid will mitigate the demands from people to immediately hook them up. Or, you could hook up your family and friends coming out of the woodwork just from that first payment, thinking fewer and fewer will be back each year.

$121k per day... seems like they might still hit you up. I would probably do this also to help budget and not ruin your life as much.

Yeah, if this was an average person, they may not know what to do with the money.

They should have immediately emailed a trust and estates, or perhaps white collar investigations, partner at a top Chicago law firm, stating that they won and that they are seeking legal advice with regard to collecting such winnings safely. The attorney would be obligated to keep that email confidential.

The firm would step in and represent them against the state’s clear incentive to question the veracity of the ticket and the eligibility of its purchaser, help with documentation of the winning ticket and all evidence corroborating the purchase, as well as help set up financial trusts and protective ongoing annuity payments. The firm would also act as a screen that protects their identity

I think a lot of folks would call their family/friends first. That puts their safety and security in jeopardy.

I think people aren't real good at dealing with sudden change. It happens with people who get rich AND famous too. Like movie stars, rock stars etc.

And it's not just the people winning that change, it's the people around them that change as well.
