DD fit vs DJ fit (36mm)

Could anyone tell me if the Day-Date will look and fit similar to the look and fit of a Datejust providing they are from the same time period? I understand both cases are 36mm but I am just curious if the DD would feel a lot like my 1601 on the wrist. I have two subs currently and am considering moving one to help fund a DD. I much prefer the classic dimensions of the 36mm. Looking at likely an 18238 or 118238. I know the six digit watch is heavier and has solid links but is there that much difference in the two? Price points seem to be much higher on the six digit pieces of course.

case shape and size assuming from the same era will be the same between the two. the only difference will be the weight regardless of whether or not you go with the 5 or 6 digit

118238 also has a better clasp (post 2004 i believe), if that matters to you. also it'll be really hard to find an unpolished 5 digit. i feel like a lot of them have melted fluted bezels

After giving my sub a break and wearing my 36mm DJ it has reminded me just how comfortable the jubilee is with a 36mm case. It's renewed my interest in a Day-Date. If I'm honest, my 41mm sub is no where near as comfortable but still a ln extremely nice piece. Decisions decisions....

Can only say that DD’s fit beautifully, as do Datejusts
Edit: president and jubilee breacelets

What is a "Melted Fluted Bezel"

Is that the kind of DJ
machine turned that seems worn down after a while? Not as crisp as the modern fluted? I think I know what you mean, but I'm not sure.

yeah just when a fluted bezel loses its sharp edges and looks dull from overpolishing

Back then you could get a DD w/a domed bezel, which probably won't show wear to the same degree.

They will wear the same, in terms of size, but the feel of the DD is much more substantial because of the full, heavy gold. If that heft is what attracts you to the DD, you’re better off getting the 6-digit. But if it’s mainly a matter of style—or if you’d prefer a lighter-weight (though not “lightweight”) watch, the 5-digit will be fine. —If you can find one in decent shape. Jacek Kozubek at Tropical Watch usually has several, and usually in good condition (honestly described). That’s where I’d probably start.

36 MM DD and DJ have very similar fit case wise, main difference is weight (specially SS vs PT) and bracelet if the DD has the president band

Everything is relevant.. with fitting, as to your wrist size and linkage.
I'm waiting for a 1.5 link for my TT DJ to arrive so I can adjust my jubilee for a more comfortable fit. I haven't tried a DD so I can't comment precisely.
Perhaps your situation may be different.
Give it a go.....

My 1601 TT DJ and 18238 DD are very different to wear on my wrist [7.5].

Your experience might be different.

18038 ‘wears’ much larger than a 18238. Because of the bracelet the day date also wears much larger than a Datejust.

I think a Day Date wears bigger than a DJ but that may just be the heft. The DD is amazingly comfortable despite the weight.
