bump. He just scammed a guy in Long Island today (November 30, 2022) for a Ulysse Nardin.
Scammer reaches out to the victim who has their watch listed for sale on FB Marketplace, and offers to meet the seller at a bank, hands the seller an envelope of $100's to count. Seller counts the money and confirms the amount, and then the scammer distracts the seller with broken and/or inaudible speech, frantic hand gestures, etc. and with a sleight of hand, switches the envelope of $100's out for an envelope of 1's. This is the 7th or 8th person in this FB group that's come forward about getting scammed by this guy. He's been all over the US this year: California, Arizona, east coast, etc. Stay vigilant if you are selling your watch guys. Have a teller/banker count the cash and once it's been counted, ask the teller to bills in a marked envelope that you bring with you. You should have your watch, or the marked envelope, in your possession at all times.

The approach was documented in another thread.
https://www.rolexforums.com/showthre...ghlight=stolen Basically the thief brings a fat envelope filled with $1 bills and plays a quick shell game when the seller is distracted. Sounds to easy to avoid but clearly he's very good. |

Isn't there a way to set this thief up? Maybe pretend you're selling a watch to him and meet him in a public place and at the same time contact the police in the area for a stake out and when the thief arrives, have the cops nab him on the spot.

Why do you think the police would “nab him” when all he did was show up? Generally also not a great idea to confront criminals either.

Why wouldn’t they grab him and at least question him? Armed officers confronting him doesn’t sound like a bad idea. |

And once the police confronts him, they can see what scam he is pulling by having stacks of $1 bills. There's the evidence.

He's pulling the same tricks that Gypsies use in scamming tourists in Europe.

My question would be if the warrant is extraditable and if so from which states? If he gets caught and you can’t extradite then he cannot be arrested unless a crime has been committed in that specific jurisdiction.

Extradition is usually a matter of finance. Alaska isn’t likely to extradite somebody from Florida for a bench warrant traffic violation. I’m pretty confident most places would extradite on theft in excess of $100,000.

Every state in the union including territories has extradition rights to any other US entity if I remember correctly. He gets caught anywhere in the US and there are charges filled on him with warrants from any other state or territory he will be held without bond pending pickup from the respective agency that has warrants for him. Multiple states involved and use of the internet/phone -- isn't this now a federal matter/FBI jurisdiction?

He can probably skip town back to Europe via Mexico or Canada if it gets too hot.
