Rolex Skydweller or PP 5524R?
Hello everyone,
I landed my dream job and want to celebrate by acquiring a new piece and am torn between the Rolex Skydweller 326938 (yellow gold bracelet and black face) or the Patek 5524R. The Rolex is probably better value due to the annual calendar in a precious metal, but the Patek is in a league of its own with the movement, though on a leather strap and higher price. Anyone have either, or both of these? Your input is greatly appreciated! Thanks everyone |

interesting to see a 2014 member with such a low post count
welcome back, and congratulations. try these on in the metal, on wrist. you'll know in about 20 seconds which one is the right one.

Congrats on landing the dream job, definitely a cause for celebration.
I had a similar decision a year+ back, albeit the price difference between a SS Black dial Sky and a 50K+ Patek 5524R made the decision much easier for me to make. Both were offered at different AD(s) at different times but in the end the annual complication + GMT won me over. If I did lean toward the Patek, I likely would've gone grey and pocketed the 30%+ savings. Either way you can't lose, you're going to enjoy/win with either choice you land on. Congrats, look forward to seeing what you end up with. |

Congratulations on the position - i would also edge to the Patek - personally prefer the aesthetics of it in Rose gold to the skydweller- but agree no real bad decision between the two. Good luck and look forward to the decision

Lol yeah, I've been out of the watch game for a while since I was investing my money in real estate. Enough of that, time to have some fun and splurge on watches! I'm going to some ADs tomorrow so see what they have. I'm almost certain neither of these will be available to try on, but I do have a Rolex GMT Batman so I know how comfortable a Rolex feels. I'm looking forward to even just touching a Patek. |

With these 2,i would take 5524R over SD TT - due to wearability and this PP just looks geogeous and unique.

I’d get the Skydweller, easily. I find the PP reminds me of an old alarm clock. Personal taste, of course - you gotta go with what speaks to you. If you do decide to go with the PP, a bonus is that no one will ever notice it or want to take it from you.

The SkyD, the Patek is nifty with setting and the pushers coming undone.

Both are gorgeous timepieces, just get whichever sings to you the most.
It depends on which forum you ask, you will get completely different opinions. I like SkyD on RG more than YG. See the pictures below on the same metal of both timepieces. In general I preferred timepiece on bracelet more than leather strap but it's always good to have various brands in your collection. If you want to get Rolex, it's better to get it from AD/boutique at MSRP but for Patek it would be cheaper to get it from secondary market at the lower price for this model. No wrong choice here, both are great timepieces.

PP would be my choice. No wrong choice though….both are outstanding IMO. Go with what you love looking at most on your wrist.

No question to me, the Skydweller.
Never understood the hype with PP, already 10 years ago when it was not worth especially expensive and even less now

Was a PP guy years ago.... I'd get the Sky-Dweller. Far more interesting movement, higher reliability, timely service, etc.
Has Patek finally upped their warranty to five years to cover problems and defects?

I've owned both and the Sky-Dweller is an easy win over the 5524 in either metal.
Congratulations on your success and enjoy whichever watch you choose to mark the occasion! |

Congrats on the career milestone! Personally SkyD wore too big for me. I'd get the PP because it's a more special milestone brand, personally I'd also get it from secondary market but not sure if that tarnishes the event for you or not.
