Better aesthetically? Rose Gold DD40 Olive dial vs Patek 5711r
Which do you prefer aesthetically between the two?
Yes the Patek is worth a lot more nowadays but before it got discontinued the MSRP of these two were not that wide. So pricing and brand aside, which do you prefer on an aesthetic level between these two? Which is the better full rose gold model? |

Aesthetically speaking alone, the DD40 in that configuration is hard to beat. The nautilus is iconic in its own right but there is something about the presidential bracelet that just works

Agree; and the olive sunburst dial is spectacular.

I usually go Rolex in these polls, but what that Patek is stunning. I also like sports watches better in general.

Patek. Rose gold is loud enough without the contrast of the olive sunburst. I also prefer Patek’s shade of RG.

DD, but as a general rule I found Rolex more aesthetically pleasing than Patek.

As blasphemous as I might come across, I couldn't care less for that PP design.

You'd need to have rocks in your head to think that the DD compares at any level to that Patek, or any Patek for that matter.
My friend has that 5711r and it is nothing short of spectacular.

Wow, your pictures are spectacular, very stunning.
I have this Rolex and would love to have this PP but the secondary market price for this PP is about $200K, way overprice, I will never want to pay for it. Both are great for their own right.

DD for me. I don't get the Nautilus (or APRO) appeal.

I’m sure the finishing is spectacular. I don’t like the design at all. It’s not pleasing to the eye like the vast majority of Rolex designs.

Both are spectacular.
all things considered, it is a toss up for me. if we are speaking strictly dial, the olive is much more appealing to me than the brown.

I think the 5711 looks outdated whilst the DD is classic

I remember when the 5711 in stainless was available and around $25k and at the same time Day Dates we’re available BNIB from grey dealers for the same price and thinking then I’d rather have a low key Patek than a blingy Rolex.
I know the DD is well loved, but it’s just too flashy for me. So 5711 in any color > any Day Date IMHO |

To me, the Patek looks like an inexpensive watch my grandfather might have worn in the 70’s. I know very little about them other than what I have read on this forum, but appreciate that they are finely made and are highly sought after and hold their value well. The Rolex also looks like a Rolex from the 70’s, to be fair, but the design has aged better in my own opinion.

I’m not a fan of gold (other than white gold) in any watch, but fwiw, if I were to choose between those two based purely on design, it’s the Rolex without any hesitation. I’d buy a Nautilus at msrp to flip it, but I’d never wear one. I don’t get what the fuss is about with that dated-looking (in my opinion) hideous watch. The Aquanaut is a little better, imo, but neither looks better than a vintage Ingenieur. (I also find Royal Oaks very unattractive, so maybe I have bad taste or am impervious to hype or both.) Patek makes incredible watches, but the Nautilus isn’t them at their best. To be fair, I think the brand itself neither expected or wanted the piece to become their flagship.
The Rolex, meanwhile, is arguably the finest model in their entire collection: their premier piece. It’s a terrible analogy but it’s like you’re comparing a top-of-the-line Mercedes from 2022 (the Rolex) to a low-level Ferrari from the 80s, like the Mondial (the Patek). But whatever—the market and the hype machine spit out a radically different answer. I’m clearly out of touch. |

I’ll take that 5711R and add the olive DD 40 in white gold. ;-)

As much as I love my RG Olive DD, between these two it's the Patek.
