Cellini Moonphase

Anyone on TRF have a Cellini Moonphase or see one at an AD? Lots of incoming threads but no moonphase threads in a long time.

I saw one a few years ago at an AD, Liked the case, very oyster like, nice weight.

I did not like the milled bezel. I liked the color on the moon and disc, but prefer a moonphase window.

I think the dial is too busy, I would remove the seconds ring if it were up to me.

So, overall it was a thumbs down for me, but it does have it's merits.

I have not seen one at an AD in two years. I wonder what the production numbers are like? Is anyone on TRF buying one?

Tried it on at an AD. I love the design but I felt it was a big watch for a dress watch. 39mm in all white with (virtually) no bezel is a lot of white which makes the watch look bigger. My wrist is 7 inches. I still want to get it, I love it! I love that it's a Cellini that doesn't say "Cellini."

But it's a 31XX movement. I bet the moment I buy it, Rolex will improve the design ever so slightly while upgrading the movement -- like it did the 41mm Sub, the Explorer II and the Air-King -- that will make me wish I had waited a few more months...

You can’t go wrong with a 31xx series movement

This should be a very strong motivation to buy it now and not wait as the 32XX series movement is sort of a lemon.

I think the Cellini Moonphase is a great watch, one of the best daily dress watches you can buy. It’s got a robust movement and screwdown crown to provide some kind of waterproofness.

I don't know that it's an epithet that can be blanket applied to all 32 based movements but there certainly is a question mark and given the choice, I'd go for the silky smooth, silent, 31 based movement.

They actually, surprisingly, had one in the case and available at the Bucherer across from Bryant Park in NYC when I stopped in last Wednesday. Not for me, but a beautiful piece.

To say the 32XX "is sort of a lemon" is a strong accusation. I don't see it. And the market doesn't see it. I love my 126900 Air-King and my 226570 Explorer II -- and love them more than their previous versions. Never had any problems with the 32XX movement; they're actually the most accurate watches I've ever owned.

But my point was you always take a chance when you buy a piece just three months before Watches & Wonders. I don't know if the Cellini moonphase will be updated. I just know it houses the old movement Rolex is moving away from. So it's reasonable to think so. If you buy it and it's discontinued, then you've hit the jackpot.

Agree. The 31xx movement is as smooth as a baby's cheeks.

I'm happy for you but the most viewed thread in this forum in the past few months seem to point in a different direction.

Maybe "sort of a lemon" is a bit too harsh, I'm not an English native speaker and I got the impression that it was more a funny expression than a "strong accusation" - my fault of course; anyways, I can't edit my post anymore so it is what it is.

I will steer away from any 32xx watches nonetheless.

I did start a thread about 2/3 weeks ago, noting how much I like the Moonphase and how I would like a steel version. I made the mistake of posting about this steel version being a 'tool watch' for those of us who enjoy sailing. Of course this took the direction of replies commenting about 'tool' watches rather than about a ss Moonphase. Ever hopeful! Edit,..... I don't dress for dinner, so I don't have any desire or need for a 'dress watch'!

Make a really interesting and different type of watch to a Rolex collection. Have to say I was smitten by it

Indeed. I'm glad it hasn't gotten the 32xx ''upgrade'' yet.

Love your strap! Do you use that strap with the stock depolyant ?

Quite frankly, it's not "sort" of a lemon ... it IS a lemon. The 32xx has been around since 2015, and Rolex STILL does not have a permanent fix for the low amplitude issue. Folks are sending their watches in to RSC multiple times for the same issue, and Rolex can't get it right. Even our friend Bas, the Rolex watchmaker, says he wouldn't go for a 32xx. I'll take the 31xx all day, everyday, over the lesser movement. Sometimes, progress (i.e., a 70 hour power reserve) is not a good thing.

There is a pointer at the top of the disc and the disc rotates around from a full moon to a new moon.

Yeah it’s a Delugs nubuck and I use the Rolex deployant.

The Cellini looks so much better once on a different strap. I’d really like a curved rubber strap as it’s actually quite a useable “dress” watch given its acre done crown and robust movement.

I can't believe this watch is advertised above retail on Chrono24, in most cases. You can easily get it from an AD at MSRP.

I think the whole point of this thread is that you can’t. Which AD has one readily available ? I haven’t seen one in a window for several years now.

I never really think about these but when I see them I really like them. Saw one at my AD ages ago, seemed expensive for a gold buckle and a gold case; high teens, low twenties if I remember correctly. Also wanted my first PM in a full PM piece, granted the cost of that is far higher. But it is a great piece, all the robustness of Rolex in a dressier presentation.

Chrono24 are never accurate and also inflated with at least 7% service fee.

So is the Moonphase now officially delisted?
What will that do to after market values?
