Turning down a Piece
I went into a big AD and expressed my interest for a PM Skydweller to one of the SAs with no purchase history at all. The person was extremely helpful and courteous. She said she will keep me in mind. A few days later, I actually received a text and was offered one but not the dial I wanted. I graciously declined and told her I will wait for the dial I want.
Are PM Rolexes a lot easier to obtain? I really didn’t expect this. Maybe the market has taken a turn or I just got lucky? |

I don't know about lucky, but there is always a right place right time element involved. I would also not be inclined to compromise of the configuration and wait for the exact model I wanted. Your patience will be rewarded and who knows, if it takes some time to arrive you might be able to get a discount? The market seems to be sliding in that direction.

At your price point, you have to be overjoyed with the watch you are buying

I just posted in another thread mentioning that there seems to be a lot more AD incomings in the past months. It seems that things are definitely getting a bit easier lately. I think you might have had a combination of that, plus the exact right timing of your visit for this current offer. You made the right decision though to wait for the piece you really want. No use spending that kinda money on something that you're not fully excited about.

My local AD (a week ago) had a YG Black Dial Bracelet in the case available when I picked up a piece for my wife.

You were just lucky. In the right place at the right time, as said. PM is very hard to get at the moment. Not much allocation, anywhere. I would have gone with the one offered unless the dial was really unacceptable. As the market softens, as it is, the first thing Rolex will do is cut back on the PM, as the market is so thin for that price level of watch. This is to prevent aftermarket depreciation of the gold models and any idea of discounting by ADs.

A PM piece purchase is an ultra special event to me. Would never settle or compromise, especially at 40k. Hello?

Imo you did the right thing. I have been offered white gold OF daytona a week ago and I also turned down. The watch was in my wishlist but I asked the SA to remove it sometime last year which somehow he missed to remove it. I explained it and said no. Never buy anything that you will not enjoy

Turning down a Piece
It’s okay to turn it down because you didn’t ask for your specific watch. Someone probably backed out and they’re just looking for a buyer. I am certain she will call you when it becomes available.
I have turned down Pepsi, black submariner, gold, because it’s not the right bracelet. And I still received phone calls from them. A black sub is a year wait now. Demand is still strong. And my guy is still busy as ever and the phone call is still high. Stainless continues to be popular. |

Im hoping that due to recent market adjustments we may finally be seeing pieces going to true collectors rather than flippers. Hoping being the key word lol

PM Rolex is NOT just a spur-of-the-moment buy... you really need to think if it's the right piece, with all the right specs for you.

Of course, Rolex will still be interested in selling as many of their most expensive watches as possible. PM Skydwellers, where the first watches to be seen at display for sale at AD's 4-5 month ago. Sendt fra min SM-F711B med Tapatalk |

PM sky dwellers are tough movers, according to my AD. They had RG Chocolate dial available last time I was in.
They also had a white gold sub and a few Daydate 40s for sale. The PM stuff is becoming available, from what iv seen. Obviously, there are exceptions.

Thanks for all the replies. I’m glad I declined. It’s a big purchase so definitely do not want to settle.
Let’s just hope the SA calls back as I patiently wait….. |

i was offered a white gold submariner 3 weeks ago and turned it down.
i wasn’t in love with the piece, and even if i was, it could be had for $10k less on the secondary market. |

I agree but the way I see is unless it’s a really undesirable piece and is affordable, then what’s the harm. Worst come to worst you can sell the watch (get your money back + profit) and you’ve still upped your relationship with your AD for the future…
