Daytona Decision

I've been wanting a Panda Daytona for awhile now, my AD laughed when I inquired about one, so i'm going to have to go grey. The question now is am i better to wait and see if there are any changes at Baselword or should I just pull the trigger now? I will say if they came out with a 41mm version of it I would prefer it, but i'm also fine with the current size. Grey prices have come down some but i'm hoping they come down more. I'm slightly worried that if I wait, prices could go back up, what are people's thoughts?

If you’d prefer a 41mm, there’s no harm in waiting to see what Rolex does. Who knows, they may give you the bigger watch you desire!

On current grey prices…who knows. I think prices could continue to soften though.

No point waiting. Even if a new one comes out it will have a huge premium and years long waitlist.

Well, you’ve already come to terms with paying above MSRP, implying the delta between MSRP and secondary is less important than having the watch in hand. Therefore, the market dynamics should not be relevant, and I wouldn’t spend time considering a watch that does not yet exist. If something else comes along later then you can always use the current one for a trade.

Given the current economic climate, I would suggest waiting for the current reference.

IF and that is a big IF they do change the ss Daytona, both new and current will go nuclear in price for different reasons. You will look back at todays street prices and they will seem like a bargain. You decide if you want to pay more because waiting is gonna cost significantly more money however it plays out. I have learned this first hand with my Panda. The longer I waited, the more money it ended up costing me.

On a significant lesser scale, look at how many new Hulk owners now passed on it when it was a $8700.00 watch everywhere.

Nobody has a crystal ball but I’d say there is a much greater likelihood that the price will go up than down so if you feel comfortable go for it.

It’s one of the most in demand watches from Rolex so you won’t see it in the window anytime soon. As long as there is strong demand the prices will stay high

Also, if you haven’t got a chance at your AD with the current model you would stand even less chance of a new model is released. All the big clients would be queuing up for it

Daytona Decision

Don’t wait if you’re ok paying gray prices. They may continue to go down in price over the next “xxx” period of time, but timing the market is a fools errand. IMO they seem to have stabilized around the 30-33k mark, that’s A LOT of money but you’ll be kicking yourself if the prices went back to 40-50k after W&W.

I have one and it’s the crown of my collection, IMO it’s hyped for a reason, IG flex douche bags aside.

Good luck whatever you decide.

If any of the other alleged 41mm Rolex are anything to go by expect a supposed 41mm Daytona to be negligibly 0.3-0.4mm larger than the current.

If you base your knowledge on past pre-ceramic Daytonas then you’re aware that they still sell for min 2x retail with the zenith 3-4x (or more). Who knows? Possibly a 41mm Daytona finally loses its luster and is a flop?

Finally, remember Rolex marketing strategy. Namely, new references in PM only for around 5 years and then a SS version. Think Pepsi, Sky-Dweller etc.

None of us have a crystal ball (I suspect not) but I can’t imagine Rolex would change the case size of the Daytona. My $0.02.

I’d agree with the overwhelming sentiment here buy it now around 30k - basically 2x Msrp for the most in demand rolex seems fine given where the market only recently was. Unless you have a desire for many watches from many different brands like myself just do it now.

I don't think prices will hit the astronomical numbers of late 2021 and early 2022 for a very long time. World economy is in shambles. doesn't hurt to wait...

Like Mystro said, no release of a new Daytona will decrease prices. The big question is how bad you want it and how much you're willing to pay.

No new release has ever led to lower prices. Now is a good time to buy, I bought a Panda a year ago for almost 50k.

I’m new here.

Which new SS Daytona is a “panda “?

Do you have a model number?

As for OP’s dilemma: buy it now. The prices will go down together with the society we live in because the world is in crysis not seen since the end of the World War II, but you will be able to watch it with the less anxiety because you will have the watch you like on the wrist.

you better buy the panda now fast as grey prices already started to go back up quite a bit in the past 2 weeks. should rolex come up with a new daytona, the question is will you accept a much crazier price than the current panda just for a little change.

I think the OP meant that he/she would prefer to get the new release, money aside. Not because this would lead to a lower price for the current ref.

Anyway, OP, if you are ok with paying around 30-33 now, I would wait until W&W because you will still be able to do 28 or 35 then, or decide to go for the new release (if that happens).

Would not pay over retail in my case; if you are ok with paying more would anyway wait as grey prices will likely keep dropping

Waiting is ok as prices are decreasing slowly. No sure what the model will look like but if there is a new one and it is not well received then I can see the panda shooting up in price due to being discontinued. It is a great looking watch.

If a new Daytona is released, it will burn the internet down, and you will not be able to find one for 10 years

At the same time the current 116500 will skyrocket. So I think between now and April is the time to buy IF you do not mind paying grey pricing.

^^X1000^^^^. It’s a perfect storm for prices to go well beyond anything we have seen before.

On a side note: The Daytona speculation has already started and won’t stop and this will create its own influence to drive prices up. Remember how many years the “Hulk” discontinued hype was all the while driving up prices and the Hulk started below msrp and no one wanted it when the discontinued discussion started.

This thread needs a pic.
