... to service my 3135 movement - in particular the mainspring. AD even tried to get (IIRC) the entire barrel assembly which apparently contains the mainspring. Same result. They decided that sending it to Rolex for service would be the "expeditious" thing to do. Even with that they estimate it may be three-to-four weeks for Rolex get back with a mere diagnosis/prognosis.

While my watch is borderline vintage (30 YO), the 3135 was used in many models for quite some time, maybe until ~2017. I realize not producing parts for really old or obscure movements may be a rational business decision, this doesn't appear to qualify for that category, IMO. The mainspring is, after all, a necessary part for service.

I suppose Rolex could be devoting manufacturing capabilities to pumping out newer models in order to maximize profit, but putting an untold number of current owners to the rear of the line doesn't seem rational. I suppose they can sell all they make without worrying about whether current owners may be put off and go elsewhere.

My experience with RSC has always been up to 1 month for a quote, and 3-4 months for the service work itself.

3-4 months at RSC is what AD originally suggested to me. After discovering this parts unavailability, AD says his watchmaker suggested times at RSC have somewhat improved since the 1st of the year, hence his most-expeditions-route suggestion.

I may ultimately conclude that going indie service with aftermarket parts would have been the best decision. I was hoping to give the AD some business to foster our current "relationship." Maybe they make money sending stuff to the RCS as well.

Interesting. I dropped off my wife's 36mm Datejust in late Nov. at local AD, and it was returned to us in late Dec. Took about 5 weeks. Was sent to RSC in NY I believe. Good luck.

Unless it's something extraordinary or you hit a significant holiday in there somewhere it should be 5-6 weeks. RSC Dallas.

Will a watch sent to the RSC by an AD get priority service over one sent by an individual, or is it FIFO?

I thought about suggesting something like that but I am sure since my AD's in-house service is Rolex certified/authorized/whatever they would have politely declined to use it. Can't confirm authenticity, will not be warrantied, etc. Now if I was using an indie shop ...

Surely an AD with a Rolex parts account wouldn't be paying that much for one. If so, that is but another reason a service is so pricey.

Yeah you're probably right about the strategy. There may be watches just not a rolex, and plenty of jewelry. I'd have heart complications with an empty wrist.
