Way to go Val! The is a great honor. I have been to both Florence and Rome and I think you will have a blast. Rome is a lot more like New York-very busy and crowded but tons on energy and fun. Spanish Steps is a great place to people watch. Florence was cool also just different. Congrats!

Congratulations on such an accomplishment! You will absolutely love Italy, Florence in particular as you're surrounded by so much (inspiring) Renaissance art.
Now shouldn't you be treating yourself to a Rolex for this life achievement? |

Justin you may too busy working but if you get a chance see the Uffizi in Florence but book in advance
http://www.italylogue.com/things-to-...e.html#tickets florence is also famous for steaks "bistecca alla fiorentina" Rome Start at the Colosseum walk back through the Roman Forum and admire the magnificance of the ancient Panthehon. Visit Piazza Navona and take in the bridges over the Tiber. Spanish steps are good but very busy and the Trevi fountain's size will astound you. Be careful of pickpockets in Rome it is notorious. A hidden gem, mainly unknown, is The Ecstasy of St Teresa a masterpiece by Bernini in the Church of S. Maria della Vittoria. Bernini created a storm as this was supposed to depict Teresa having an orgasm! |

Congrats, Justin. Fanstastic news and a reward justly deserved. You will have a great time in the most beautiful country in the world (or at least in Europe).
I highly recommend that you get a couple of Rick Steve's guidebooks, namely "Rick Steve's Rome" and "Rick Steve's Florence and Tuscany". They have wonderful self-guided walking tours of the cities (it's impossible to get lost with them) and great restaurant suggestions. If you want to lug a third one, get Rick Steve's Italy." It covers everything generally in Italy, including the Amalfi Coast (which includes Capri). Have a great trip. I'm envious already, even though I was just there a couple of months ago.

Great news!!!! Florence is a beautiful city and as noted above full of wonderful art.
I highly recommend the very readable book: Brunelleschi's Dome to give you some background on the rise of the Renaissance in Florence. Easy side trips by train: Siena, Pisa and Bologna. All beautiful places. http://www.amazon.com/Brunelleschis-.../dp/0142000159 Buon viaggio!!!!
