Rolex Protection Film?

Has anyone "wrapped" their watch? I just picked up a 2022 SD 43 "RED" Anniversary and have bad OCD and concerned about the polished sides of the watch case getting scratched up with time. I figured I would get in front of it and maybe place some clear protective film just in those areas. I'm not too concerned about the brushed stainless bracelet.

Just say no. Don’t.
Learn instead how to not constantly bang into things and let it become second nature to keep you watch out of harms way.

The worst areas won't get covered by the tape. It's actually the polish / brush transition areas with sharp corners that grab/drag on sleeves and show wear over time. Your stickers won't solve that. Nor will they solve the dings and dimples at those 90 deg corners of case and case lugs.

Scratches out in the flat plane of the polished or brushed surfaces is easy to flatten without ruining the case at service if you care to.

The polished sides are almost always protected and suffer the least. You may get surface scratches here and there.

I highly dislike scratches too but I wouldn't go the protecting film route. On this watch, the only thing that would get scratched up fairly easy would be the clasp.

I keep a Bergeon sanding block in a drawer somewhere to realign the brushed grain whenever something bugs me a lot.

For polished areas, I just leave it alone as I wear my watches carefully and most, if not all, scratches will buff out during routine service.

Also, film will not protect you from the crap that would require a little more intervention come service time such as a big ding or a gash on a lug.

Congratulations and welcome to the forum Bernie

Scratches and scuffs are inevitable. You can use protective films and such if you choose, it’s your watch.

Personally, I like to enjoy the factory finish brushed and polished surfaces un encumbered by stickers that will ultimately yellow, peel or become dirt traps.

If you get over your OCD life will be so much easier in all aspects of it.

Hopefully, someone can recommend some quality protective film for specific Rolex watches from various brands, so that those who want to use them, regularly or just occasionally, will know where to get them. I think they make sense when traveling. I really like messed up my Daytona clasp when traveling, I guess against the seat belt clasp on the plane. if you do not travel often, it's tough to know where the hard objects are in time and space and protection may make sense.

Thanks Brian! Happy to be here! I might try it and see how it goes... I plan to also wear bracelets alongside the watch so it will be rubbing up against the sides... Let's see how it goes.

I'm glad I don't have any film on my watches. I wouldn't be able to enjoy them if they were always wrapped up. Plus I can always afford another one if I needed to see a polished shiny version.

Just curious, do most of you that are against the clear PPF for watches apply this to your new sports cars? I'm quite sure most do. I use clear PPF on the polished sides and clasp on my 124060 and couldn't care less how anyone feels about it.

I vinyl wrapped my BMW K1600B in a different color, and all I saw when I went to the wrap shop was high end exotic sports cars being fully or partially wrapped with clear PPF. So I guess it's okay to protect your 'performance' car, but not for your "tool" watch?
Hypocritical if you ask me.

If you don't wear any bracelet(s) I don't think the sides of the watch will get that much wear and tear to them
But, I'm sure you can grab a kit and put it on the sides if you want to be cautious.
Congrats and enjoy

I do not apply PPF to either my watches or cars. I have become a fan of ceramic coating on cars.
Not everyone wraps their exotics. A few years ago I saw my first McLaren F1(only 100 left in the world)arrive at the local Cars and Coffee. The owner of #036 drives his $20M+ car pretty regularly, the front end peppered with rock chips.

Why Rolex owners are so worried about their watches. I haven't seen a single "protection film" thread in any other watch forum.

Also I don't get how one can have OCD about getting steel scratched but be OK with ugly distorting plastic crap glued to the case.

This!

Also this was never a thing until Rolex became "investments" first and watches second.

I wouldn't use protective film on my watch (or on my car lol). It would bug me more to have the film on there than not. And I consider myself pretty OCD, too. Enjoy your watch. Live your life.
