If you look on Chrono24 they have gone up. The ice blue dial with baguettes now has the brown sundials so this particular version is now gone. I have this version and am happy that it is now unique.

Rick is correct. 2023 Watches & Wonders was an amazing release for those that own the 116506 with Baguettes.

Prices should only continue to rise for the 116506, but especially the baguette indices version.

Chrono 24 is hopeful asking prices. Anyone can ask any price at any time but that does not mean that there are buyers at those prices.

Get it whilst you can!!!

On a serious note although I would expect it to go up, I see no price increase on any models whatsoever from yesterday.

Will go down. C24 are just aspirational prices from resellers hoping to make more profit during the initial rush.
People want the newest and the new platinum is arguably better and more interesting with the new movement and open back.

I'd have to agree with this.

Price aside, I'd rather have Rolex's new movement and display back. The display back is a first for the Daytona (I think, and for any Rolex sports model) and imho a far more 'important' release historically and horologically. Those who have the means would be smart getting the new version imho.

I like the new movement and display back, but there was something really special about the previous all bluebdial. Not sure how much I lime the new sundials matching the bezel.

I think the expectation was that it would be discontinued.

Now the opposite has happened, a new version with even more interesting features is available.

The prices rose last year on speculation, have crashed, and maybe will fall back below $100k again.

The new model is nicer for those of us who don't have a horse in the race.

I’d rather have a solid ice blue baguette dial that is not interrupted with the brown subdials

I’d rather have 116506 price not go through the roof so I can continue to wear and enjoy mine every day without worrying that it is too expensive or too special to actually wear and enjoy.

Crazy.

Does anyone have the new MSRP UK prices for the new Platinum releases please?

Waiting for my own AD to let me know later this week.

Dealers are trying to get more for all old versions of changed models but I haven't seen any takers yet.

Over all, who would not prefer the new Platona with exhibition back to the old model? The fact that this new model Daytona just came in explains why a number of people I know were able to get older Daytonas including the 116506 recently from the AD - the ADs were just trying to get rid of old stock.

In the end, I think so many caliber 4130s were made that they may not become rare enough to justify increased prices, the same way that the cal 3155 Day Date 36s and cal 3156 Day Date 41s are not selling for more than the cal 3255 Day Date 40s.

Will the 4130s become like air cooled Porsches? or just another discontinued water cooled Porsche.

No one really knows what will happen for sure though. If people decide that they like the older models more and supply becomes limited, then the older models will go up in price. For now all you are seeing is excited sellers trying to see if people will pay a lot more than they might have a week ago.

If we just look at data from the 116520 , when the 116500 came out, it should go through the roof when the new one is available to the public.

The 116506 was one of the hardest watches to obtain from an AD. It will be years before the 126506 starts to flow on the secondary market making the 116506 prices climb fast.

That's a good point. If availability of the new Platona is limited then people will be forced to buy the older one.

On the other hand, will scoring a Platona from the AD become any more difficult? I think it will remain equally difficult as always. No more no less.

As far as the 116520 - I got one on the secondary market brand new unworn in early 2016 for about eleven grand as I recall. The fact that it is worth double that today I think is more a function of that today the secondary market for all new Daytonas is just higher proportionate to MSRP versus in 2016.

Remember there was a time when the aftermarket for many brand new unworn Rolexes was under MSRP. In fact as recently as Fall 2020, you could get a Platona in the secondary market for under MSRP - I know, I bought one but the seller reneged on delivering it! and refunded my payment.

I checked a few 116505’s, 116515’s (yay) and 116400’s and some have went nuts.

Seen some of our TS right here on TRF add 10k overnight to the 505, and a few thousand on the Milgauss and some of the 515’s. Primarily the Chocolate dials for the Daytona.

Seen similar results on Moda.

So much for me ever getting a 505 at retail. Unless my A D has one stashed. And you can best believe I’m trying

However I Haven’t seen any crazy increases on the 500.

Jeez. I hate that for you Jay. I know the Meteorite 509 was one you’ve been after.

Pretty sure I seen one on Moda auction yesterday for 120’s maybe. Just insane.

And all the JM Green dial Daytonas are going bonkers! Higher than the original madness. Not so much the Blue one. Which is odd. The man did say in the same video that BOTH were sleeper hits in “his” opinion. But everyone gravitates to the 508 and not the 509.

But look, we all know Rolex will have another Blue, Green, Meteorite, and on and on dial again. For WG and RG there are only 3 dial choices and one has diamonds. We know Rolex ain’t sticking to 3. No way. No how. Not when there’s 6 for YG. Six!!
