I've got a D series Sub LV, when I shake it, I don't hear a thing. It runs about +2 sec per day.
I've also got a Z series GMT IIc, when I shake it, I don't hear a thing. It runs about +1 sec per day.
Finally, I've got a M series SS Daytona, when I shake it, I can hear the rotor. It runs -5 sec per day.

Obviously the Daytona's movement is very different from the sub and GMT, but is that consistent with other's daytona's?

Any feedback from other Daytona's would be appreciated. Thanks!

Interesting. I have a M series sub date, GMT IIc and the M series Daytona. I have noticed the same noise with the Daytona, while. Hear nothing with the sub and GMT.

The new Daytonas use a ball bearing mounted rotor counterweight..

The other Rolex models use a solid bushing.... There is no noise from the bushing models, and that is why Rolex sticks with them...

The ball bearing mount makes noise as the bearings roll in the bearing race...

when I'm walking along and have the daytona on a certain angle I can feel my rotor moving to, it's normal.

Larry, are you sure its not the other way around? The older Rolex caliber 4030, a modified Zenith El Primero 400, has a ball bearing rotor.

i just got a daytona and noticed the same thing as i picked up my sub and daytona this morning. figured it was normal...glad to hear/see why.

The Daytona 4 series movement uses a ball bearing rotor,where most of the 3 series movement uses a sleeve type rotor so they would sound different.Today the main Achilles heel in the 3 series movements is the rotor shaft bearings especially if not had any service . And IMO its the 3 series movements weakest link, the rotor winding sleeve bearings. Now these need proper lubrication and its very critical its done right,if it drys out you will get severe wear in the bearing jewels.Looks like to me, Rolex has sacrificed a bit in the engineering department,for better winding efficiency. IMO the small diameter winding post don't offer enough support to the rotor weight, but again some go on for decades without service, but many fail for the lack of this is why ball bearing rotors are better.

Mine is quiet during normal wear unless I shake it really hard, not sure of series but purchased new in 2005.

Rolex have never made a series of any watch they are just case serials nothing more.

Well I'd say movements come out in a series like your earlier post (3 series versus 4 series).
The OP's M s/n Daytona should have the 4 series movement and the rotor's ball bearings can make some very slight sound when circumnavigating the movement.

Depends on how much noise. Daytona rotors are not noisy. You should hear some new Panerai....

I didn't know that. My 116500 LN CERACHROME DAYTONA yet to arrive so I wasn't aware of rotor noise in Daytona models. Honestly, it never bothers me even Vacheron Constantin Quai De L'ILE in house movement wobbles when I gently waive my hand.

On my SS bezel (green tag, so really recent) Daytona, I can hear the woosh-woosh of the rotor turning if I take the watch off my wrist and hold the bracelet tight so it doesn't make any noise. On my wrist, it's almost impossible to hear the rotor over the hushed noise the bracelet makes when I shake my wrist.

My one came back from Rolex Service centre Nov 2016 and the Rotor is still noisy so I don't see how a service makes any difference to the noise also the ticking is loud unlike other models my Daytona 116518 is Z year
