is this a Scam? Rolex AD. asking for your opinions

Hi Guys, last year my wife went to a quick trip to Guam. I asked her to place her name on the Rolex AD waitlist for a 124060, just in case. Yesterday she received a call from someone claiming to be a sales staff of the Rolex AD in Guam. She thought it was a scam, but the person said she also sent an email and payment instructions. I checked the email, and everything on the email seems to check out ok. I got really excited and started to look for plane tickets to Guam. But since it's last minute, and it's a holiday here in the Philippines, it was impossible to get a plane ticket.

Here are some red flags that popped up and would like your opinion on. (i will post the email message here of the sales staff)

1) Sale staff was using her own gmail email.
2) Sales staff told us that we had 2 days to pay for the unit. She called Wednesday afternoon (holy week). And all banks were closed Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
3) She said we can pay via wire, but only gave a credit card form.
4) She insisted we pay now and we can pick up the unit within 2 weeks after payment.
5) Website link does not work.

here is the email:

Dear Ms. ***********

I hope this email finds you well. We are pleased to inform you that we received the timepiece that you are interested in. I have provided the model information for your reference below for your confirmation.

Model: Submariner / black index

Model number: (removing for security)

Price: $9,100

If you are still interested in making this purchase; please contact me with your decision within two days of receiving this email because this model is very limited. If we do not hear back from you within that timeframe we will assume that you no longer would like to make the purchase.

Pick up of the item must be made in our boutique. However; you may remit payment for your item via wire transfer if you are unable to arrange for pick up within our allotted time.

If you would like to pay with a wire transfer; kindly fill out the attached form and send it back to me with your signature so that we may proceed with the process. If you plan to make payment in person you may fill out the form during your visit. Please note that we will not process any transaction without this form being signed.

Best Regards,

(removed for security)

Five red flags and you are wondering? lol

I can't imagine a Rolex salesperson using a personal email account to contact a client about a purchase.

Looks like they just want your decision on if you want the watch or not.

Just reply back saying you’ll take the watch and you will pay in person when you arrive.

When would be a good time to come into town?

Also I would call the Rolex in Guam and confirm the sales associates works there and that they have you down for receiving the sub.

Looks like a standard email about a watch allocation except that it’s not coming from a store email.

Oh hell no. Call AD and ask would be first step (after hiding your wallet) but it doesn't look good.

Reply that you will buy and pay in person upon confirmation. Ask for photos with dial set obscure time like 8:53 and 42 seconds. You will quickly know if this is legit. Where are you located?

Sales staff is holding the watch until we get there next week. She said you can pay for it here in the store. Thanks for all the replies.

I am in the Philippines. Guam is a quick plane ride from here. The sales staff is holding the watch until we get there and she said we can pay in the store.

Whenever you receive an email or phone call asking for payment, it’s always good practice to call a known number you have for the business to confirm it’s actually them. That would solve this straight away.

There are afew very serious problems here.

1) The red flags should tell you not to make the move at all. It’s just a watch, don’t be scammed

2) If this email/caller is a scam, then you should really report to the relevant authorities for breach of personal data protection. This is way more serious than not getting a watch, because if this problem is common, I guess a lot of people will be scammed in due time.

You should call this boutique and talk to the manager. And ask for clarifications. You SHOULD also RECORD the conversation.

Call the Rolex AD in Guam and ask to speak to sales manager. They do have Rolex ADs in Guam, at least the last time I was there. They had a LV Sub 16610LV I wanted, but the wife told me it wasn't in the budget. I love it there.

If there is a doubt there is no doubt.

I doubt that came from the AD.

I don't understand?
Do any of you who posted after this post even read the thread from the beginning, or just have nothing better to do but continue with a negative outlook after all is well?
