Spec of dust
I just noticed a spec of dust on the inside of my Sub. :(
It is small but is bothering the hell out of me !!! Is there any way to get rid of it? Is this covered under warranty? Also if the dust got in there does that mean it is not that waterproof either? |

Usually Rolex assembly is quite good, though thru the years I've had the same issue a couple of times. The first time I sent it to the RSC and they took care of it. The second time I had my watchmaker do it.....the third time I just let it stay in the case until I forgot about it! I don't think the dust got in after the case was closed so I would guess that the WR isn't compromised. If you feel uncomfortable most any watchmaker can test for WR.
So yes, they have covered cleaning the dial/crystal in my experience with Rolex. Rob |

Kind of frustrating. Could be dust, a small speck of lume or dial paint. Chances are that it did not leak in, but was sealed inside when the watch was made.
If your watch is still under warranty, you can certainly question the seal integrity with your AD. Does it bother you enough to have your watch opened up to remove it? Mark |

It would bother me too. If its new then I would take it in and have it removed. I am sure this isn't the first time that sort of thing has been brought to their attention. Hopefully its covered under warranty. If its not then you have to weigh the cost against your dislike of that piece of dust. You could wait until its time to have it serviced and have it removed then. If its time to have it serviced then its a good excuse to have it done now. I don't know the chances of it getting in while winding the watch thru the cap but I guess its possible. I wouldn't think that its waterproofness is in question but its possible I guess.

so was your GMT covered by the warranty??
What would happen if I unscrewed the crown and blew air into it? do you think that would work or do more harm then good? |

Yeah, have to agree. If it is too much to live with (which it clearly is for you and would be for me also!) just take it to Rolex or a private watch maker so they can take off the caseback, remove the movement and get rid of that for you then put it back together and presssure test

You would then have to find somebody to properly press the crystal back in place.......... ..............but it would be dust free........... If it's under warranty, it should be covered, after all, it is a manufacturing defect. If it's not still under warranty, then any competent watchmaker could take care of it for you.....

That would bug the heck out of me so I would take it to a RSC to have them clean it.

RSC installed a spec of dust inside my GMT II a few years back. My AD insisted they did not do it, so I had a professional watchmaker remove it.

I found a spec of dust laying on the dial of my EX 1. I left the crown unscrewed for a few days and the dust eventually fell out. All Gone!!!

If it's still under warranty the AD should remove it or have it removed no questions asked.

I had the same problem about two months ago. Go to a certified AD and they have a vacuum system that can suck all foreign material out. I know it is frustrating, but I promise it can easily be resolved. While you are there have them buff up the watch as well and you will leave with a brand new product. Peace out!

It is a shame that this many people have experienced this same issue. It kind of bothers me in thinking that Rolex in fact may be a very mass produced product with a lack of attention to detail. Between the lume and this I kind of wonder what is happening behind closed doors.
