What Do These Pics Tell You About This 1960’s TOG?
I think there is a story here. The heavy patina on the bezel and the deep color of the lume tells me (from what I’ve read about gold patina and lume discoloration) that this watch has been undisturbed and likely in storage in a dark place for a long time. The condition of the lugs and case suggest it was only lightly worn prior to that (I don’t have a service history, so maybe it was polished before storage).
That’s my optimistic assessment – opinions appreciated! |

Hi,
Nice looking piece in a sunburst graphite/grey with dropped L of ROLEX period nomenclature on dial. Lume plots look lovely shade, orig date wheel and plexi possibly too. Would be circa post 63 T SWISS T and usually have a bi-colour folded bracelet I think (but not 100% sure tbh -as dealers mixed and matched of course). I just don't do polishing forensics....., but lugs look even(ish) - and they are skinny from factory on the very early post - 6202 t-o-g's. Btw - The bezels tarnish a lot on these, irrespective of whether they have been hermit like, or not though.

I love when gold takes on that rainbow patina

To that end, I’ve noted a few things to look out for, and that droopy end of the bottom of the L in ROLEX in one type of dial that to the untrained eye might appear to be ‘off’. Btw, I suspect it’s made by the same dial manufacturer that makes the 1675 mark 4 dial, as its slightly apparent on that dial too - but less pronounced - than the DJ/TOG dial versions.

The 1625 also had a unique dial being slightly smaller than the Datejust model & used crystal from 15xx models.
