GMT Master II 16710

Dear all, my 16710 does not seem to proper charge automatically. Sometimes I find it stopped, not worn for about 12 hours.

Manual charge works well.

Bought in 2007, never serviced.

It would seem the solution is pretty obvious.

“Bought in 2007, never serviced.”

Think I’ve spotted that the answer is in the question!

Do a winding with 40 full crown turns, each 360 degrees. Then place the watch at rest in dial up and see after how many hours it stops running. Get your watch measured (in 5 positions) with a timegrapher.

It is possible that the autowinder is not functioning properly or the lube is inefficient.

It is also possible that you are simply not active enough during the day to fully wind your watch.

Wind it once a week and see if this doesn't help. It certainly may need to be cleaned and oiled, but if the problem is simply not being active enough then a service isn't going to fix your problem.

I think some of the answers above may help point you in the right direction, but I should add (just in case that you didn't know), that most Rolex movements should have a service once every 5 years or so to maintain proper performance and accuracy.

Mechanical movements require cleaning, lubrication, and adjustment, as their daily operation causes wear, the drying out of (and debris collection in) important lubricants -- one such issue Larry has mentioned in his reply.

My suggestion would be to submit your GMT to RSC for service and it will no-doubt come back in fine fettle!
