Hmmmm. I understand how you feel and I shared your perspective for a while (but not for the same reason).
I have had a number of Rolexes over the years, all of which I have appreciated due to their incredible resilience to life, rather than to the prestige which they may seem to imbue. In fact, more recently, the prestige thing is something about the current Rolex ownership I don't really enjoy: I liked Rolex when they were a tool watch for hard working people (that some famous people also happened to have); but since they have become such a status symbol and are now targeted specifically at the rich and famous, and since their tool watches have become decidedly less tooly, I find myself less keen to be associated with the kind of aura they have. Accordingly, I find less enjoyment in their recent models (which seem to be more glitzy and less tooly) and want to be less associated with the Rolex 'reputation', and I find myself wearing my humble Blake-era Omega GMT instead. I still appreciate the 1675s etc., but there's something a bit fake -- a bit non-genuine -- about the whole Rolex thing now and I find it harder to be a part of what was, once, a humble little family.

I think long time owners are more relaxed about wearing a Rolex. They know it's just a watch and nothing more. But there's definitely a bit of snobbery attitude with some wearer's that is evident at times in the jewelry shops and especially at watch club meetings around here.
Only the one watch sleeve rolled up to present their Rolex. Putting down other brands and even hierarchy within Rolex itself. As if ones better than ther other. Oh if they only knew. Some are so arrogant that they don't even notice when there excluded from conventional talk about watches. They keep wanting to bringing up their Rolex over and over. It hilarious really. One guy even whispered to another, it's better to think you know something about watches, Than to start talking and remove all doubts. So yes, they is definitely some watch snobbery going on.
