as time has gone on, I've found saving for a new from AD for a watch I plan on keeping is worth the extra cash. if you feel like your tastes change quickly then yea I'd just get from a trusted seller, or if a discontinued model then no real option. I guess just inspect photos carefully, have seen dubious examples from well known and respected greys.

Thanh is the best. Just bought a pp from him. And various Rolex deals with him. Dude is impeccable. Also bought from Watch Box; safe but overpriced. Thanh or Sohais. You’re aware of the who’s who section right? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Here’s a website that aggregates TRF listings and feedback. I use it to quickly show buyers my 7-8 years of selling history. When you look at Thanh Do he shows 1000+ reviews and over 9000 listings. That tells you all you need to know!

I tried to buy a 7300 for my wife from Phigora a couple of weeks ago. They have it listed on multiple sites even though the watch has not been available for a while. They have it on Ebay as I write this as if it's available for "buy it now."

I've bought five watches from Watchbox. The first three (all within a week of each other) were a JLC Master Ultrathin Perpetual Calendar, a GS Senator perpetual calendar, and an Omega Worldtimer. When they arrived, the date wouldn't advance on the JLC, the crown fell out of the GO, and the Omega was fine. Watchbox offered a refund or repair and I chose repair. The GO was easily fixed by WB and the JLC went to Texas for warranty service. Then I bought a Patek 5035R from them - no issues. The most recent watch I bought from them was a 5036G. After ordering and paying, they advised me that one of the pushers was sticking and that they bracelet was short one link. They had to get it to a watchmaker to fix the sticking pusher and order the link from Patek. Obviously, I keep buying from them because, despite not being perfect, they've always stood behind what they sold me and have proactively addressed the problems. I've bought four or five watches from Watch Outlet and, with one of them, it started running almost 45spd fast after about 9 months. They weren't responsive to my contact, so I took it to my local watchmaker who regulated it and it ran perfectly. When Watch Outlet reached out to me about something else and I mentioned to them their lack of response to my watch that wasn't running properly, they were mortified and immediately asked how much I spent to have the watch regulated and sent me a PayPal the same day. We've seen watches here that have left Rolex with numbers upside down, in the wrong place, and duplicated. OP, you did exactly what I would have done in your shoes. When you posted what Phigora offered you (Patek service, refund, right to refuse at any point), the first thought I had was that, if the watch went to Patek and was fully serviced and authenticated, you just pushed off the need for a very expensive service by at least five to seven years. I'd have done that in a heartbeat. And, in the end, they refunded your money in full. Having said that, I don['t blame you for not wanting to buy from them again. And, it's good that you noticed the issue before you got the watch. |

I’ve had several transactions with Thanh, all Rolex, never an issue. He is a standup guy. I hope he has what you’re looking for.
Glad that the PP mess worked out for you. Edit: Congratulations

Wonder if there is a way to report this to the authorities where they operate.

Hopefully (doubtful though) they took it down.

Happy resolution. Got my money back, and I bought this 5146p (sealed from service) from European Watch Company. It’s a real beauty.

I wanted to say thanks for this thread. I won’t share details but I was going to buy something from the dealer in question… a great deal. The main takeaway from this entire thread is this: had the buyer not discovered the problems… he’d be wearing the piece unknowingly for years to come. Makes me wonder how many of us are walking around wearing other pieces from dealers… that have authenticity issues despite the papers etc. Whtyer Rolex, Patek, AP, vacheron.
I’m never a fan of sanctimony but the above is why I stick only with ADs even for preowned. I’ve never had issues with David sw or European watch co , though but I will pay extra for even pre owned from local ADs in my area. |
