Multiple 2-watch collections
Like a lot of you who've been playing with watches for a long time (since the mid/late 80's for me), my interest has waxed and waned over time. It grew and contracting in numbers, adding "grail" pieces that ultimately didn't stick as grail pieces, and gotten more esoteric (expensive!) at some points, more pedestrian at others. I made a 15 watch Pelican case, and tried to make that a self-imposed limit, which has had mixed results, but overall has sort of worked, though evolved into multiple watch rolls that are easier to put in my safe. I find that I usually keep 2-3 wound and handy at any given time though, and the thought of getting down to that elusive 2 or 3 watch collection I could be totally satisfied with has both interested me and made me a bit sick! Today I did my usual after-work ritual of taking off my real watch, and putting on my Apple Watch Ultra (yeah, I know), and looking at my nightstand and thinking about this interesting, basically random combination, and what if these were my only watches? Then it had me thinking about my collection as a bunch of 2 watch collections, and how long I could go with a set before having the urge to change to another pair! I'm hoping this is the equivalent of "going shopping in your closet" and keeping me from buying another watch roll I have to fill.

I hear you. As I've often said, I was more satisfied with one Luxe watch. My first was an Explorer. When I got it, it never crossed my mind that a man could have more than one.
Then I found this group. And you know how that goes. VVV |

Don’t get me started. I suppose I have about 50 such collections. I really need to whittle it down. Many of mine are mid tier Seikos. If I see something I like, I buy it. After getting my OP, though, I do plan on selling off a lot of watches. I’d like to get down to 10. That means I have to sell 90. Holy Moly!

I downsized from a larger collection to just two pieces. It was the most freeing experience! My plan now is to sell one of the two, should I want another watch. I found having a larger collection to be a chore- always chasing the next piece.

For whatever reason, I fell hard for the BB Chrono panda and waited a year to get one from the AD. When I did get it, it was because the AD and my wife conspired behind my back last year for Father’s Day.
Now that I have the watch, it’s a bit too chunky, the bracelet could use a bit of taper and T-Fit. In short, it’s not perfect. That said, every time I see it, I love it. And your picture brought that familiar “damn, that’s a good looking watch!” feeling. I could absolutely have just my DJ41 (black, fluted, jubilee) and BB Chrono as a two watch collection and be pretty damn happy. But I can’t part with my grandpa’s 1803 so if you’re going to have three watches, might as well have more! |

I understand your point.
I will never forget the satisfaction and the enthusiasm I had for my first beautiful watch, a Hamilton then the second, a Tag and finally my first Rolex, a 14060M which fascinated me, 17 years ago ! Since then, it's been abundance without ever finding this feeling too much except with my DD40 in yellow gold which is like a child's dream. So maybe my collection will end with my beautiful DD and a Sub! (14060 or 124060). And I also understand for the Apple Watch. Having taken a Series 8 for my father (fall detection, pulse measurement, etc.) and I was surprised by the quality! And i like so much this forum so keep going perdition

You can slice it and dice it any way that suits you.
I used to wear mine in strict rotation. At the moment I have three watches in one location which I rotate roughly once a week each, and the rest stored as a collection that I admire and occasionally take one from to give it an outing. I have no idea what system I will come up with next or when. |

Yeah, I get it...and well said.
I've been on a similar path, slowly consolidating my collection toward a small group of watches for a specified time period. Within that group I have watches aimed more at physical activities, outdoor/adventure types if you will, with others more for other pursuits. The thing that's really come into focus with this approach is what are the go-to's in the collection and what are the nice to haves. And that has been a real game changer for me. |

Agree on both points on BB Chrono, though slightly better than the Heritage Chrono, the only watch I’ve even owned that was physically uncomfortable to wear. I wish Tudor would make a more refined bracelet, even if it added $1k to the MSRP.

Also, there is an "extension link" make by Steel Reef, which is essentially turns the clasp into a Rolex easy link. One, or both of these products, could be real game changers. |

Have 12 watches and keep growing , half of them are Grand Seiko/Seiko and Gshock.
Rotate all of them depend on my mode and dress of the day . 14270 and Speedy are always my first pick if I'm in a hurry to work. Today wearing a King Seiko |
