Trade two steel divers for one steel diver

Have just negotiated a trade for two steel divers for one steel diver.

My 16610 Submariner 2004. Yes it’s a great watch but once you get used to the new bracelets with glidelock and solid links it feels a bit small and tinny.
And my Deepsea 116660 first edition 2010. Another great watch and has been the one I wear the most but some days it feels big and the bracelet just feels a bit narrow. They definitely improved all faults on the newer 126660 and 136660 models.

The submariner does not really get worn anymore and just sits collecting dust so as the saying goes if you don’t wear it anymore then get rid of it.

I am trading both for a 2017 seadweller 116600 (sd4k).

This will be a straight trade. As much as I love the two watches it will be nice to have the seadweller as it’s sort of an inbetween of the sub and the Deepsea.

Forgot to ask if anyone has done this sort of trade. Gone from pre ceramic sub or Deepsea to sd4k?

Tough call. If the Sub gets no wrist time then that one is an easy call. Any option of trading that plus cash for the SD and then see how you feel?

That seems like a lot to give up. I have no idea what the prices are like in the UK though.

Can you sell both privately, buy the SD4K and come out ahead?

If it makes you happy than i would do the trade. Money wise it maybe not the best trade but if the SD comes from a reputable seller than it’s much easier to do than what Brian suggests in the post above. If you do want to maximize the trade, than i would try to do what Brian suggests.

Not sure of the values but it seems you are giving more value than you are receiving back in the SD4K. I don't follow the market in those watches but do see prices occasionally. Are you dealing with a Trusted Seller or another dealer? What is the value of the SD4K if you paid cash? Money aside, cool watch.

As it’s the black dial Deepsea first edition they don’t command much of an interest as most people are after the newer version or the James Cameron. Am not interested in selling privately as that is a lot of hassle.
The sd4k comes from a reputable U.K. grey dealer (Watchfinder)
Am also not wanting to add any money in from the watch pot as am using that to buy the batgirl down the ad route when I get the call.
Sd4k U.K. prices are between 14/15k

That seems like a very one-sided deal not in your favor

Trade two steel divers for one steel diver

Seems like they should give you some cash, as well.

SD4k is great watch. I would this trade.

But I am assuming you are doing this trade with a dealer (rather than private). With a dealer this seems ok to me ---- dealer will always buy for cheaper; in the UK, a dealer will offer around £6k for each of your watches. And SD14k is around £12k. So this makes sense to me. With a reputable dealer you should also get peace of mind in terms of autheticity and warranty for 116600.

If private trade then I think you are on the losing end.

Onething you can try is to do a trade in with watchfinder (given you are in UK), they do seem to offer good value when trading in.

Several people have already stated the answer, if YOU are comfortable and feel good about it then congratulations; what anyone else thinks or feels or if it makes sense to them is irrelevant.

Yes I am comfortable with the deal. I bought the submariner for a very good price from a friend and do not wear it anymore. I love the Deepsea but feel the size can be a bit too much sometimes and think on the wider bracelet would wear better.

So better to keep a watch that doesn’t get worn and another one that sometimes is good but sometimes feels to big

the SD4K is my most beloved watch. Had plethora of subs of all sorts, 5 digits, 6 digits, date, no date. The SD4K is the most special one and the one that stay with me

I own an SD4K. Stating that upfront so you know my point of reference here.

SD4K value for a complete set is around $15k.
Black deepsea is probably $11-12k.
16610 is probably $10k.

Take $2k or so off each of those for trade in. So maybe you're leaving $2-3k on the table here? My prices are in USD.

Understand your comment on the 16610 bracelet when comparing it to the 6 digit bracelets. I think Glidelock is one of the best bracelets. Only downside with the SD4K is that it is still a tall watch because of the case back. Sub is a bit slimmer. SD4K is a very special watch and the reason that I haven't sold it after 7 years.

Would I do the trade given your comments above? Yes. Would I try and get maybe $1-2k back to you? Yes.

Post some pics when you get one.

lol....as I said above, with a dealer it does seem like a fair deal....with watchfinder you do get 2 year warranty, peace of mind and brilliant after sales service.

I would definitely prefer the SD4k over your two watches but the terms of that trade are terrible.

I would keep the 16610 and trade the 116660 for a 16600.

Ok thanks, I bought the Deepsea 10 years ago pre owned for £6250 and am being offered £6800 for it. 2010 models are selling for low £10k so it does seem like a little low for the Deepsea. I am happy with the price am receiving for the sub. I understand the dealer needs to make some money but I would have thought after 10years the Deepsea would have gone up in value for a trade more than £500.

Am happy with the trade but yes I think I should push for a little money on my side as well.

The older style bracelets don't do it for me. they feel tinny and the glidelock clasp is one of rolexes best modern invention on the newer bracelets

This is unfortunately the key problem. UK market doesn't seem to work like that. Watchfinder dominate and take massive chunks out of any deal.

I am a repeat customer with them (multiple buys and sells) yet was recently offered £high teens for a blue three hander Overseas 4500v as trade in. They are currently offering for sale a couple of black dials for ~£24k, no listed stock of blues for sale on their website (so can't claim to have a glut...) but they do have a blue for sale from their third party sellers at £25k.

They are listing early 116660 full sets for about £10k for reference.

Don't take this the wrong way as Watchfinder are not always terrible, hence why I've done a few trades with them, but they are not always great. They are the gorilla in the UK market though so get to throw their weight around.

To the OP... I have a sd4k and it's an amazing watch. If the deal works for you, is hassle free, and gets you such an amazing watch that you will wear more and enjoy more, then of course do it!
