Good Deal? Bad Deal?
I recently visited an AD in the NYC suburbs, looking for a two watch package deal -- a SS GMT IIc for me, and a SS ladies datejust (fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet) for my wife. Total retail price $13,000.
The AD quoted me a price of $11,874 for the two watches -- less than 10% off the MSRP. I feel like I can do much better from an AD (never mind how much better I can do from non-AD sources), but I would love to hear from others if I am off-base and should more seriously consider this deal. Thanks for any and all advice... |

I know people have mentioned that 10% is a standard discount. I would think for two watches, more than 10% is possible.

Aim for 20 to 25% off for the lady's datejust and 10 to 15% off on the SS GMT IIc. And no, 10% off is not a good deal...only cover for taxes. Either that, buy the lady's datejust at 25% off and buy the SS GMT IIc from one of our trusty grey dealers here for a much better discount.

I think that if you can get 10%, and also have the items shipped out of state to save another 8-9%, then you have made a very nice deal..
You can always shop around.........but that doesn't mean you can do better in some parts of the country......

I was offered 23% by a Forum vendor with open papers from a US AD...
My Local AD at best on a new Rolex could only go slightly over 15% and then I had 7% tax on top of it added back in...

I got 15% off on 2 Subs when I bought from an AD and they shipped them out of State to my cousin and we saved another 7% on Taxes. Prior to that deal the best I found was 7-10% from several other Ad's in my area and in the Bahamas!!!

I recently did the same thing on a 2 watch deal with my local AD.
Got a total of 20% off. 10% discount and shipped out of state to save another 10% sales tax. One of the watches was a SS Daytona. |

As others have said... buy from a grey dealer here. The experience and price will be far better.
I bought a GMTIIc from DavidSW a month ago and would totally recommend talking to him. I'm looking at buying a ladies Yachmaster for my gf through him too so ask about the Datejust. I was worried about buying from a grey market dealer, but my worries were for nothing. Do your own DD, but definitely consider it. |

Just a quick update -- went to a second AD, who is willing to part with the two watches for 15% off of the combined MSRP. This seemed to be a much more appropriate discount. Of course, now that it's becoming more of a reality, I'm starting to get cold feet...but I should suck it up and make this happen, right? Right?

I would try to get 20% off or buy them from one of the GD on TRF. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.
