1530 repair question
Hi there:
I love rolex's and have several, inherited and bought. I recently got a nice vintage piece, an unmolested 5552 with a 1530 movement that I bought specifically because I'm rough on things, and wanted something that if I bashed it up, i wouldn't feel bad. It ran fine when I got it. I sent it off to a well reviewed watchmaking shop (not an official rolex service center) in a major city for clean and oil, and a new barrel install on the rotor. The work was completed but twice now, the mechanism will fail to regulate and will start gaining several minutes per hour. I sent it back in the first time, and it was reset and returned, and now I am travelling and it has again started to run very, very fast. I am at a loss what the proper thing to do here is. The 1530 is a simple movement, and i was told that it was in good condition when it was initially submitted for cleaning. In a situation like this, am I justified in pulling payment through the credit card company and just sending it back to Rolex? I used an unofficial service center because I wanted to keep the original dial, hands etc, but moreso now, all I want is my kick-around Rolex to keep time. Frustrated.... but thanks for any input. Send it to a proper Rolex certified watchmaker.

Surely you paid for an amount of repair work to be completed. It sounds like that work has not been satisfactory in which case you should request they do it again properly or refund your money.
Record the performance of the movement on a free app such as Toolwatch, screenshot the data for your supporting evidence. Personally I’d be trying to get my money back and I’d then go to RSC and discuss it with them Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Sounds like your watch is getting magnetized.

It sounds like it's getting magnetized, but I am convinced that is not the problem. I've demagnetized it (the first time), and there is no difference, it continues to run fast.
