Finding correct and sourcing vintage Rolex boxes
Hello!
New to the forum. I just purchased my first Rolex, its actually a gift for my dad. It's a 1956 Oyster Perpetual Ref.6564. It did not come with papers or a box unfortunately. I would like to purchase an appropriate vintage box for when I gift it to him but am running into some difficulties. First off I'm not entirely sure which box would have been used. I think I figured it out from a similar watch for sale with the original box although I'm 100% sure (the box in this listing https://www.chrono24.com/rolex/rolex...id26251398.htm. If anybody here would know if that is indeed the correct box (I think its the 10.00.01 Triangle Top) or a good source to investigate it. Second issue is sourcing them. In searching I've found a few on ebay and other sites. Seems to be either in the $2-300 dollar range or in the $1000+. The cheaper ones I'm a little concerned are fake. Some are obvious where it looks brand new even though its 70 years old. Some look appropriate but I'm no expert. I also don't really feel like spending $1000 on a box. I tried searching on here a bit but I think the word "box" is too short for the search term criteria Any help or advice on this would be appreciated! |

Great thread! First of all welcome to the forum!
I normally check Chrono24 and EBay for boxes. You could also try: -Vintage Rolex market -Watchrecon.com Hope you find what you are looking for! |

I believe that the box in the listing you linked is probably too modern.
Here is an article about boxes for sport models. I don't know if the same boxes were used for the watch you're referring to, but at least it will give you an idea of the right era. https://rolexhaven.com/boxes.html

Thanks for the input! I will check out those sites.
I did come across that website but it seems to specify they are the sport watch models only so not sure if that holds true for the regular oyster perpetuals. |

Another site:
https://www.chrono-shop.net/en/ Not sure how legit they are…might have heard something before that there were some problems with them. They been in business for a long time though… |

I've had the most luck on the vintage rolex market and instagram.
Surprisingly there are sellers that specialize in boxes and paraphernalia. |
