Hello there! I'd like to ask those of you who are experienced in selling watches on the forum. Are there any pitfalls to watch out for? Which payment systems are better to choose? How to avoid fraudsters? Any response would be greatly appreciated!

Extremely difficult for a new seller without history. You have to be low in price to persuade somebody buying from you.
You might be better of selling it to a dealer.

https://www.rolexforums.com/showpost...32&postcount=1 Selling multiple watches over time requires trust. Reputation is key. Member history matters. So before selling, build a trustworthy reputation. On scammers, it is hard if one is easily defrauded. Successful sellers on TRF don’t make posts about buying a fake on Chrono24 and losing their escrow payment. I agree that selling to a dealer is best if all you want to do is sell one watch. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Ebay used to be a good venue for a seller, but between Selling and PayPal fees and the 1099 tax liability, you may end up in the 60% range anyways. |

Even though it’s has its own risk/dangers, I sold an explorer II on Craigslist. I had the full kit and a recent Rolex documented service. Talked to the person on the phone, met at my bank to deposit the certified funds.

It’s really not all that difficult in today’s age, hence all the ‘fly by night’ sellers like YouTubers, Moda, etc.
Learn to use Google, take excellent photos, do a handful of deals to dealers, build up a solid reputation, and viola you’re now a watch dealer. Give a man a flute, and they have a flute. Give a man a camera, internet and some capital, and suddenly they’re a watch dealer. |

The truism still and always will hold true.
Buy the seller and not the watch. It doesn't matter what or where you buy from: ebay, chrono, craigslist, forums or wherever. I've bought and sold maybe 40 watches on every one of these sites in the past, but these days, I probably would not. Just too many grifters out there. And even on this site, my membership was cloned a couple of years ago and someone was selling a GMT, I think it was, under my name. (I've never owned a GMT.) Luckily it was caught and the person never made the fake sale.

Sell to a dealer who has a decent reputation, preferably one with a bricks and mortar storefront. They have a reputation to uphold, and will offer you the safest kind of transaction available to most of the general public.
You will take a small hit on price, but that’s worth it for peace of mind. |

Good luck avoiding scammers, every time I've listed something, they come out of the woodwork. It has become too risky and stressful for me to sell online these days (it's certainly doable, but this is a hobby and the fun starts to diminish with the stress). I did do a face to face deal with a TRF member back in Nov that went very well.

I have sold a few years ago privately. It was haggling through the end. For example, the buyer would agree to a price and then the next day say he had such and such lower price somewhere else. If I could not match the new lower price, he would buy it at the lower price. Just sell to a dealer if you can. No hassles, most pay for the shipping to them with their label and transfer funds immediately upon receipt of the watch. Plus, a few hairlines are no big deal as they will buff those out before they sell the watch.

Call the trusted sellers here and tell them what you got. Sell it to whoever pays the most. Safe, worry free transactions.
I sold two WG watches last year that way. PM me, and I’ll tell you who paid the most.
