Is the Oysterflex worth it.. or?
Been toying with the idea of dipping into one of the Oysterflex models - namely the Daytona & just interested to hear people's thoughts & experiences on the Oysterflex "bracelet" - yes I know Rolex insists on calling it a bracelet so I'll keep to the same flow here.
I know many people say for the money you're going to spend on a PM Rolex anyway, it almost seems crazy to have it on a strap when you may as well go full hog with the full PM bracelet as well. Thoughts... |

Sorry, it's just stupid to put a rubber band on a gold watch.

I’d say it makes slightly more sense than putting a leather strap on a 150m wr Royal Oak offshore. But I do agree, a weird combination. Have to say though I do think the black and gold is aesthetic.

I like the contrast and the practicality of the rubber strap. I don’t own one but have updated some other watches with similar straps and I like them a lot…

Does not make sense to me. For me anyway a Rolex has a metal bracelet.

I love my Oyster Flex Daytona. To me you get the some of the weight of a gold model but its a little more casual than a solid PM watch. They are great for the summer as well as the rubber bracelet is super comfortable

Buy on bracelet, add one of the aftermarket fitted rubber straps to scratch that itch.
I did it on a Sub 114060 (using RubberB) and a spare Glidelock clasp I managed to pick up. While the clasp is difficult to source, they make the straps with tang buckle too. I cannot imagine the OysterFlex being measurably better. |

Once you get the fit right, it is one of the very best watches Rolex have ever made.

Imho Rolex should offer the ability for us to have both the rubber and metal bracelet.

Stupid is a wrong assessment. Rubber offers all the advantages including cost, weight, comfort and many others. Particularly the way Rolex does it where it is a true bracelet. The only disadvantage would be looks such is subjective. You certainly would not suggest something to be stupid purely on the aesthetic, would u?

The "fins" on the Oysterflex make all the difference in both fit and comfort

Not a fan of OF. Especially on a PM piece. So not worth it to me.

I like the look of a Rubber Strap on a Sports Watch.
I have an OysterFlex Bracelet (as Rolex calls it) on one of my Daytonas, and it is very comfortable. |

the rubbed tends to wear pretty quick. Not sure how you would keep it looking clean.

But if you need bling, or want people to notice, don't buy one. I get a lot of nice comments about mine, but it isn't a watch people will notice like a YG Day-Date. However, a few years ago, I overheard a person tell her friend, "see that watch, it is very expensive". |

Having a Rolex on rubber is not that odd to me. What's odd is how difficult Rolex makes something simple like a rubber strap. Why the metal inside? It makes sizing a pain in that it's not self adjustable other than at the clasp.
I get it that Rolex wanted something more upscale, but it's a pain in the rear. Also given that Oysterflex models won't accept a Rolex bracelet....I just don't get why Rolex makes it so difficult to have fun with a rubber strap....which is what I usually associate with rubber watch straps.....an opportunity to have fun with bracelets and straps on a very expensive watch....and to have some flexibility in water or summer days. I'd rather buy a RubberB strap and get the standard bracelet version. |

It's an awesome piece IMO. Speaking for the colored gold daytona variants, it's sporty/casual, and it's also class and elegance all in the same stroke. I also am very fond of the WG version, and that can truly pass as under the radar (relatively speaking). The straps with the fins are also quite comfortable and they are pretty durable. If by chance they wear out in 10 yrs, is $280 for replacement going to break any of us? As for the thought of going all gold at a 30% higher price point, it changes the look and feel of the watch completely. Bling factor elevates to a different level. The ceramic bezel is also absent on the full gold models.
As some have mentioned 'stupid' is subjective when it comes to aesthetics. But count me in as a big fan of the model, as it can be very casual and smart casual at the same time. Almost a perfect piece. |

Is the Oysterflex worth it.. or?
As an owner of multiple PM with PM bracelets and one with an OF, I feel that there are distinct advantages to the OF. I love the fact that mine comes complete with a gold Glide Lock clasp. The watch is comfortable and much more so than it would be with the all gold bracelet. Also the Glide Lock clasp allows for easy on the fly adjustments. If there weren't so much antagonism on the site against them I might have ended up with all OFs and none of the PM ones. I've tried the OF on other stainless models but it just isn't the same as the OEM design. I really believe that Rolex knew what they were doing with this bracelet. Thumbs-up to Rolex.
I just love it when a guy with a 10K watch makes snide comment about people's 40K+ watches. So credible. If it were a Patek in gold with a rubber strap would that be the same comment? They lead Rolex in the charge. Follow your own advice and buy a full PM watch. |

Not if it has significant water resistance. Take the PP aquanaut for example.
The only thing that puts me off oysterflex is the huge metal clasp. Looks a bit disjoint to me. Sent from my SM-S908B using Tapatalk |

Love OF! Adds sportiness to Daytona, provides nice contrast, eliminates pcls, allows ceramic bezel option on pm, is very comfortable, and allows the Daytona to look/wear a bit larger. There are plenty of luxury pm watches on rubber now days. I love the OF so much, I bought a set for my ss daytona.

I love my YM on Oysterflex. It's more sporty and under the radar than a full gold bracelet. I also have a RG DD but the YM get more wear since it is less flashy. The DD is my favorite watch but not worn that often.
