RIP..............Seadweller
I have just received a call from someone who knows (some) of the inner workings of the Rolex Corporation and she has confirmed that Rolex have no more SD watchcases left. She does not know when they ran out of them but she guarantees that they are now no more, awwwwwwww!
In other words the Seadweller is now dead! The final models had either a late V4 or V5 serial number, she thinks. Rolexroz |

I know this has been mentioned over and over again in different threads but do you guys think this watch will appreciate dramatically anytime soon? I am thinking about picking one up again but just wondering... I am thinking it will increase but not for like 10 years due to the large production of them over the years...your thoughts?

I dont know what its like stateside but here in the UK you cant get a new one for under £4000 GBP in new, boxed condition. Even 5 to 8 year olds are commanding upwards of £3500 GBP so if you can find one I'd get it.
I've had mine just over a year now and love it to bits and got a good discount at my AD too.I sure am glad that I picked it up when I did. |

I think SD is a great time piece, and I'm pretty sure it'll appreciate in value. I can see it being one of the most sought out pieces.

I bought mine from my local uk ad about 8 weeks ago, they had the last 3 their company was recieving from rolex. Mine is V49 one of the other ones was five cases below mine but the other one was V50 so must have been made weeks later. I wanted the V50 but it was sold and waiting collection. So if rolex make about 900,000 watches a year and ad's had v5 serial watches in stock in late may early june the new serial number can't be that far away. Also i had been told that the v serial sea-dwellers had only been released because rolex had over looked an order of sea-dwellers for the uk market but if thats the case it's strange that there is such a large gap in the serial numbers. It would be interesting to see how many of the last ones are actually being worn (like mine) rather than sitting in investors safes.

I never doubted that it would happen just as ....
I never doubted that it would happen just as I don't doubt that the same fate awaits the current non-ceramic Submariners.

It may increase in 20+ years but not significantly I am guessing. Why? The sheer number of them out there. I do love the SD though. |

Thats more or less my take as well, great watch though. I regret selling mine some months back, wish I could convince the wife I needed another one.

Production numbers.
Roughly speaking, over the years the SD was produced at about 8% - 12.5%(depending on where you got the figures) of the numbers of the pre ceramic GMT.
The GMT, since its demise has increased in value, Pheonix like, from the ashes of the old fashioned Rolex models. I honestly cannot see why the SD will not increase in worth, especially in the eye of the investors, by a greater amount and more quickly than the multitudinous GMT's. Only the downturn in the global economy may go against such an increase, but then again it would also effect the GMT prices and that does not appear to have happened. Rolexroz |

Similarly, I believe many more Sub Dates were sold than Sea Dwellers. I very rarely see a Sea Dweller in the flesh but you always see Sub Dates. The Sea Dweller is a classic and I'm sooooo pleased I picked up my V4 prefix a month ago!!

over the last 10+ years looking in several local ad's windows whenever i pass i've only seen one sea-dweller for sale and that was gone in a week so the production of them must have been quite low but saying that my local ad had a deepsea for sale in the window yesterday at rrp and thats the second one in 3 months. sign of the times in the uk??

To me, it feels like the NEO death scene in Matrix Revolutions. Long and drawn out, but it will live on forever. The SD 4000 is one of my favorites.

Shame and a pitty. Also a mistake in my opinion, but nothing lasts forever.
