I have a client with a hidden SSID. They frequently have issues like this. What a waste IMHO. Someone with a packet sniffer could get the hidden SSID anyway. Better to broadcast and use WPA with a stong passphrase in my opinion.

I was doing both, but at times my MBP wouldn't connect even if I did a manual connect. I tried it with my Dell and iPhone and both were able to connect. This doesn't happen often, but I just got annoyed and just unhid my SSID.

OK, I'm back online!
Turns out my router was fine, but for some reason got it's settings thrown off...maybe during a power outage... Anyway, I am THRILLED to be back online at home. Hopefully I stay connected this time! Thanks again for everyone's advice! |

Glad you are back online.... and make sure you have an anti-virus running in the background!

There are 3 Macs and 2 iphones running on WiFi at all times. I decided to changed my router name to Nosey Neighbors. We never turn our Macs off and when opened instantly connect to WiFi but we only had to select Nosey Neighbors instead of the preivous name to get going.

I was thinking of two possible scenarios in case this ever happens again...
1) In Windows, there is a setting that can cause the adapter to choose the "next available" WiFi network. It is possible that it selected a different SSID (perhaps a neighbor's) and the settings were incompatible, or required a passcode. 2) The wireless AP might have been set to only accept 802.11g or b clients, but not both simultaneously. One possibility is that the new work laptop had connected as a g device, and your old laptop might be a b adapter. The settings on the router might have been set to reject b clients if a g client is connected (this will reduce the speed for g devices so that option is included on some routers to prevent this). |
