VC Overseas vs Chopard AE XPS

This forum is doing a number on me…. in particular, these two pieces. Had my eyes set on a rose gold white dial day date 40, but strongly, considering picking up one of these in the interim.

Obviously, both extremely well-made and I’m guessing on par from a quality and movement standpoint.

Anyone have variations of both?

Both amazing if it was my only watch I’d go with the VC easy cause of quick change straps and micro adjust bracelet but as part of a collection I find the Chopard more interesting.

I have the 4 pieces at the bottom of my signature. Certainly the quick change is a great feature that needs to be considered

WG DD 40 would be my choice (I have a DD 40 YG)
I like the VC but like the DD more.
I just have never been a Chopard fan

Got my first VC last week, and very happy.

I tried the AE and found it too small. Also, the screws bothered me, felt like a RO imitation.

Well the blue OS is a great piece along with the QR bracelet. As other said it makes it very versatile. The blue is a really nice blue. I have good things about the salmon chopard. Good luck with your decision.

I am not a fan of Rolex so I would choose one of these two

Something I've been thinking about with nice pics of the XPS. Can anyone explain if the lug to lug wear similarly or how they compare to a regular alpine eagle? Thanks.

I would go with the Vacheron Constantin for the integrated bracelet sports watch over the Alpine Eagle 100% of the time. Easy choice. Personal preference, but I find the design a lot more compelling and the bracelet change out / other two options is one of the best on the market.

In general I don't see much that I like in Chopard's watch range. However the 96.1L calibre LUC 1860 (36mm) and 1860 XPS (40mm) in exhibition and officers case back are exceptions. I've been considering picking one of these up, but I'll probably wait till I see the right watch appear on the pre-owned market as they do depreciate quite heavily.

But sports integrated bracelet watch: if it fits you the overseas. 100% If you have a smaller wrist I would look for a Streamliner if I needed water resistance, or a Royal Oak if I didn't need water resistance.

Clearly my personal choices. But "you do you" of course.

The only thing AE wins is the thickness, and it's a huge win. Otherwise Vacheron all the way.
In some sense Vacheron don't seem to want the business. 4500v is definitely too thick, they previously released the 2000v which is the perfect overseas, but they decided the 2000v will only be a very limited release in white gold. Crazy, they could have released the 2000v in steel, non-limited and win the market

As an Overseas Dual Time owner, VC for me as well. That said, the Alpine Eagle with its 80s retro charme is nice in its own right from a dial perspective. I just really don't like the bracelet.

By the way, in my humble and biased opinion, Overseas over DD any day. Just have a look at the movement, the finishing, the rotor (ah forgot, you can't, and you wouldn't want to, on the DD..... ;-). Plus the Rolex RG is way too red for me. And it seems like you've got your bases covered in terms of Rolex already.

They are practically identical in lug-to-lug length:


The case thickness on the AE XPS decreases by 1.5mm (8.2mm vs 9.7mm):


IMHO It’s also more refined with a thinner bezel / wider dial:


From certain angles, the bezel on the standard AE appears to be ‘squeezed’ at the 12 and 6 o’clock positions:

I’ve tried on the Overseas multiple times when they were readily available in display cases. I absolutely love this blue dial!




The one thing to keep in mind is that this generation was announced in January 2016. I have no ‘intel,’ but these are long overdue for an update. I would not be surprised if we see an update next year! I would hope the next generation will be slightly smaller and thinner, like that platinum grey dial from 2016! Perhaps, they will be readily available once again! Then again, we may not like the updates!

I believe the VC Overseas is due new bracelet next year !

I would hold any purchase. current one is almost with no tapering and feels bulky vs the newly released VC retrograde date ! .. Bracelet is completely different in dimensions

37 mm AP is another option depending on wrist. These are both big watches.

The VC is a big watch, and frankly too big because of the lugs that flare out so much. Made me sell mine.

VC on rubber is very comfortable on the wrist.

Do you need or want a date function?

7 year warranty (or balance of) with the VC once registered.
