Sub date...would it be blasphemy to put it on nato?

I've tried and prefer the bracelet on 6-digit Subs. I sometimes wear NATO and other cloth straps on my vintage 1680. I have also experimented with both RubberB and Everest straps on modern Rolex watches. I always end up back with the bracelet. I've been such a purist with my newest Sub Date that I've never even taken the bracelet off after owning it over a year and half, LOL.

I’ve swapped most of my watches (including 6 digit sub) onto either NATO’s or mesh, and none of them look good for very long, they always return to their original bracelet eventually. Looks they’re wearing tracksuit at a nice restaurant.

IMO, the OEM bracelet is about a third of the aesthetic appeal of a particular watch and therefore they seem to look “correct” when they sport their original accoutrements.

If you’re going to change the bracelet with an Esslinger tweezer, make sure you practice on a watch you do not care about as much because you WILL scratch the lugs.

I tried putting one on my sub date when I got it back in April. I think the strap lasted a minute before I realized the perfectly-brushed oyster bracelet is half the allure of the submariner. Haven’t considered it since.

I’ve tried to put a 116610ln in nato. Looks ok but it doesn’t look so good as omegas or the 4-5 digit subs. It’s the boxy case.

Best advice above from Gearjockey.

The 6 digit subs are daunting to remove the springbars. I change straps several times a week on any other models. I do it once a year or never on my no holes Rolexes. Very difficult.

Bergeon spring bar tweezers work great for me. It is nearly impossible without them but with them I don’t even use tape or anything. I take my bracelet off more than I probably should because I like to scotch-brite any minor scratches periodically.

The trick for me is to pull the case away from the end link(s) and then push it back into them when re-attaching. All of this is done while lying in a microfiber cloth.
