My insurance will cover windshield and tires and rims.
Hi Santosh insurance for automobiles in the United States may work differently than your home country, and for some drivers these coverages (at correct prices) can have a lot of value. It’s very situational person to person.

See I think it’s totally car/wheel specific and the price you’re getting it for.

I can pay ~$2000 and get 8 years unlimited miles tire and wheel protection on my new GLS580. AND it covers cosmetic. It has 22” AMG wheels. That’s a great deal in my opinion and will pay for itself with just one mishap in 8 years. AMG stuff is no joke, which I know you’re well aware.

I see guys paying that (or more) for a 4 year plan with just factory branded Ford/Chevy/Toyota wheels, which is bonkers.

Best part is I asked for a discount on the car to offset the price of the wheel/tire. Got another $500 off without having to buy the protection. Which will of course go towards funding my next watch... model TBD.

Thanks for all the input!
For the record….i would’ve done the same

So you are buying insurance from an insurance broker instead of a car dealer. It still is very likely not a good deal for someone unless they are living paycheck to paycheck.

If you could turn the clock back....yes, buying it this last time might have been good but never having ever bought it would have been the best choice over 10 years and just one claim.

Thanks again for the advice on buying the optional coverages. Thought I’d update with a picture of the car and that I was able to pull the surprise off Christmas morning. She’s very happy, as am I.

Merry Christmas!

Change your deductible to zero. It's usual cheaper than you think.

Questions on a new car purchase

I’ve bought about 10 cars over the last twenty years and not once have I elected any of those extras. No regrets. Also, I always thought your basic car insurance covers the windshield but I’m not sure, because I guess I’ve been lucky all those years.

First it the tire and wheel protection. $2100. Fixes/replaces tires from damage by road hazards and scrapes/ damage to the wheels.

Second is the windshield protection. $1400. Obviously this replaces cracked, broken windshields. Rain sensing windshield, which most are now, but more expensive than just a piece of glass. I have insurance protection but a $500 deducible if I need to use it.

What do you think? Are either, both of these worth it? Or are they just expensive insurance policies that are mostly unnecessary?

Thanks! Appreciate your input. And have to send the wire soon to make this happen on Christmas morning.
All depends on where you live. I should have bough the tire package because I ended up getting 7 flat tires in 18 months. Same on windshield, yes I can have replaced through insurance, but where I live it is not uncommon to get multiple replaced, which actually believe it or not has a material impact on your insurance rates and ends up costing you way more. So in my experience, it depends.

Also, windshields are a lot more expensive to replace now for insurance companies given the sensors built in around the rearview mirror.
