Speedmaster. The greatest Omega ever made. The Daytona is the most overhyped watch in the world and if Paul Newman didn’t own one it would always be in the Speedmaster’s shadow.

You either want a watch that is basically identical to the one worn officially on the surface of the moon or some dead actor’s time piece that was never popular whilst he was alive.

I love the Speedy, but I will also buy the Daytona when offered. If I had to give up the Speedy to get the Daytona, I'd keep the Speedy

Haha. I hear that. My Daytona novelty lasts a bit and then it's back to 321.

I’m very particular about case thickness and comfort so Daytona for me. I can admit the speedy has the better dial hands down but everything else I’ll take the Daytona.

If Ed white was the same dimensions as the Daytona that would be my pick.

Don't think I'd ever wear a speedmaster for the simple reason that it's manual. Rolex you throw it on and forget about it. No way I'm going to wind my watch every day.

And yes I know there are auto variants of the speedmaster - I've tried to like them but don't care for the styling or fit (yes even bought one - but traded within a couple weeks.)

I love a good Speedy but, the Rolex wins for durability. I had a pushed just fall of my new 2022 Speedy, the AD was like, sorry, we will send it in...

Agreed, and I like the seconds hand to tick and move. It would always be paranoid about the watch being inaccurate.

How do you even objectively rate "better"? More reliable? Keeps better time? Value retention? Purity of the metal used? I mean you can buy a watch at 1/10th the price of either of these 2 that will do what a watch is supposed to do very well so the rest is all marketing, labeling and perception of quality created by the image of the manufacturer.
In these areas Rolex is the king....the most recognizable brand in the world and Omega is not even close in that regard. So if you like the Speedmaster that's great. It no doubt is a bit more legible than a Daytona but so is the Timex Easy Reader as Jack Nicholson likes to wear and that watch will keep ticking after a licking for 60 dollars. For me the Daytona is a very comfortable, wearable, recognizable piece that will hold it's value well and it's a pleasure to own and wear even if it's chronograph is useless and telling time requires paying more attention to the task then is required for a Sub or IWC Pilot's watch ....but if I just cared about telling time I wouldn't need a Daytona or a Nautilus or any of these expensive toys.

I like both, and have both. It's a very hard choice to chose one over the other for me. Does a Rolex have more brand recognition to the average consumer? Yes. But to watch enthusiasts, the Speedmaster has a rich history that goes beyond brand recognition. And this is one of the reasons why I love my Speedmaster.

It's the watch that was chosen by NASA (and the only one that passed all of their testing requirements) for their astronauts. It was the first watch on the moon. It's the watch the astronauts wore and used on Apollo 13 to time their infamous 14 second burn to ensure a safe return to earth. There is more, but suffice it to say it has such a rich history with space travel. The Daytona is more around racing.

Two iconic watches for two different reasons, and I love both.

Screw down pushers to make a chrono waterproof? Why?

Speedmaster is the more useable/practical chrono for those who don’t need to flex.

I have and love both. Daytona is fancier and wears perfectly, granted legibility isn’t always great.

Speedy 3861 wears very comfortably and is the most legible watch I own. It’s less pretty, more useful. I go back and forth wearing them and enjoy both for those reasons. At some point I’d like to swap for a 321, but 3861 is so perfect, I’m having a hard time justifying it.
