I still don’t understand the point of these threads

It’s your watch do with it whatever you want……end of story and enjoy a fine time piece

You’re going to keep, not sell, the watch, right? If so, a polish isn’t going to hurt. Had my 1998 Seamaster 300m serviced by Omega last year for the first time and I’m glad I did. It doesn’t look brand spanking new…but damn close.

Here is my experience.

I have a 20-year old GMT Master II that I had it serviced and polished by Rolex about a little more than a year ago. I wore it daily for 10 years, and then I still wore it at least once a week after that. No major dent, but as you can imagine it had a lot of minor scratches. I didn't think much about polishing it, I just wanted it to be serviced (it was running slow) and when they asked me whether I wanted it to be polished as well, I thought why not?

The watch came back looking... fine? I think they did a good job. If I was shopping on Chrono24 for a watch of this age and saw this, I'd think it that looks great. But it just doesn't feel like the same watch to me anymore. I can't articulate why... it just feels and looks off to me, even though there is nothing wrong with it objectively speaking. When you have been wearing a watch extensively over such a long period of time, you just notice things that other people don't. And once it is polished, there is no going back.

Unless you have a few big scratches on the watch that you really want to get rid of, or if you really want your watch to look like a new watch again, don't have it polished.

The whole point of this thread is the fact that someone who seemingly has had no experience with the process and resulting outcome has asked for feedback.
The complicating factor is that the OP basically rates the watch as well used. But well used to the OP may be fairly run of the mill for others and the OP is under the mistaken belief that the watch will look like new(what ever that may mean the an individual) upon return.

Personally, I am trying to manage expectations and give some context In order for the OP to make a fully informed decision before committing.
There are many unknowns in this case for all of us without pics.

Feel free to add something to the conversation which may be of assistance to the OP in this matter.

That’s interesting I just sent a seamaster in. Partly because it was a new acquisition, and I wanted to verify authenticity and have it serviced moving forward even though it was serviced around 2018. I did ask them about polishing and I didn’t respond one way or the other I mentioned the crown, thorough cleaning, etc. etc..

Just gonna let them do it their way, and the only thing I asked for is if they would send the original crown back

But admit I dont have a loupe to expect every minute area of any watch I have ever owned.

I’m in the No loupe camp. I wear it and enjoy. It is 99% of the time this is the sub I wear the others only on occasion.

I never plan to sell this particular watch, but it’s always interesting to get different points of view.

I'm also in the RSC polish camp.

My D serial Coke GMT had a small failure - the stem wouldn't wind the movement. Time for a repair and a service, which would be it's first service since new in 2005. Local AD sent it to Toronto SC with instructions for a service and repair, and a polish. It was returned in six weeks looking better than new. Assuming I know what new looks like as that's how I purchased my Subc. No edges rounded off, perfect satin effect and perfect reflective case finish. It's magnificent. I'm looking forward to having the Sub done in a couple of years!
