My 116610 just stopped
My 2011 Submariner 116610LN just died on me this morning. Was out pushing the snow blower which is not in and of itself unusual. I came back in the house looked down and my watch had stopped.
I unscrewed the crown and gave it a few turns to wind it and nothing unusual feeling. Screwed the crown back down and nothing, the second hand for a few seconds had a very slight pulse like it was trying to move but unable. I had it serviced in September of 2020 by Rik Dietel and it has always been a great running watch. Im bummed out for sure. |

Sounds like a mainspring. Shouldn’t be a involved fix.

That’s a real shame, and very disappointing. So sorry to hear, but it does sound like a simple fix. I’m not sure I’d send it to the same guy, though. It should have run well, a lot longer, after a full service, just a few years ago. Send it to RSC.

Gave a full 40+ turns. Screwed the crown back in and the second hand pulsed back and forth ever so slightly for a couple seconds then nothing. Sounds like mainspring maybe? |

Even if it is just the mainspring, you need to disassemble pretty much the whole movement to get there. With oil and grease in certain spots it would require a full service to do it properly.
A watchmaker telling you he will only do the spring is one I'd avoid. |

Yes, but they seem to offer a max term when one calls. However, there have been many posts of people experiencing much less than the initial proposed term.

Does refinish bracelet and case mean a polish? I was going to drop off my Explorer 1 at my AD tomorrow. Same thing, just stopped working. It’s from 2010 and has never been serviced. Definitely full service. However, I’m not sure if I’ll have it polished. I kinda like the scratches and scuffs it collected over time. On the other hand, a “fresh” watch is also appealing. What do you think?

How many turns is "a few". Give it 40-50. Maybe it just needs to be wound. I hope its that simple.

My 116610 just stopped

If you don't want that you have to request that RSC must not polish or refinish the case but only service the movement. Also request that RSC must not change the dial, hands, bezel insert etc. You need all that written down on the RSC paper that you sign before the service starts. Go directly RSC not AD. Polishing yes or no is your own choice, decide what YOU prefer, the opinion of others is irrelevant. |

These watches can handle being worn while snow blowing, riding a motorcycle, golfing etc.. that’s not his issue.

Dropped mine off today. No refinishing, just service of the movement. They said 4-6 weeks. Going to RSC in Pennsylvania.

Its strange that your Rolex stopped working, especially since you had it serviced not too long ago, maybe it just needs a little TLC again.

I've lost two mainsprings on 31x movement watches, both less than two years old. Sounds like you're probably lost yours. It should come in beautiful fettle. Something to look forward to.

Probably the vibration from the snow blower broke the main spring. As much as we would like to believe our expensive professional Rolex references are bullet proof, they are still subject to the limitations of a delicate mechanical device. Suggest you strap on a G-Shock (also a fine watch which I totally respect) for any vigorous activities involving potential strong vibration or shock. All the same sorry to hear of your mishap.

He used an independent. Who knows what the guy may have done, or not done, that could have caused his watch to fail so soon. That was my thought process, and fairly logical, in my head. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
