Help a veteran ebayer with his first Tudor, please...

Hi all,

I'm a long-time ebay seller, and I sell professionally for an affluent base of clients in Arizona, by appointment only. I recently took in a Tudor, from a customer I know well. He got it in trade. It's my first, and having done some homework (thanks to this site) I've learned about the counterfeiting problems with Tudors. Would you mind taking a look at photos I've posted to my own site, and offering input on whether this is authentic or counterfeit? Here's everything I know about it:

- model 7016/0
- serial number 623626
- movement 2483
- caseback 7528
- date code I.68
- The dial is missing the rose or shield symbol.
- The inside of the caseback does have 2 service etchings, so I assume an authorized (?) dealer handled it at some point.
- The bezel appears stuck - I can't turn it, and don't know how big a problem that is or how involved a repair that might be
- Crown unscrews smoothly - no rubber casket on stem
- Caseback does have rubber gasket
- band is clearly hallmarked as a Rolex band - it's only disconnected so I could read the model, otherwise it's in great condition ready to wear

I used to be a diecast model seller way back when, which is how I got into ebay in the first place, so I just created a page on that site and put all the photos on one page. I apologize if it loads slowly - they're web-sized but still fairly large. I hope I'm not violating forum protocol too severely by putting photos offsite rather than embedding them here.

If it's fake, I'm ready for the bad news. If it's not, and just a re-dial, any input the group can offer so I sell it "properly" and honestly would be appreciated.

IMO it looks OK but I am by no means an expert with Tudor, I am sure Steve, Stan or others will take a look soon..all the best

Welcome to TRF

The dial would be my only concern what this Tudor, the Tudor rose missing and the second markers are a little short around the edge of the dial. also seems to be missing the T SWISS T at the 6 o'clock position. I also have a feeling the Bezel is a newer edition too, as it has the newer looking font, the top of the 4 at the 40 position.

I'm not an expert on these tho, as Michael has mentioned Stan and Steve M could tell you in a second

Not an expert with these either but I agree with Dave and think the dial was redone and probably a newer bezel.

The hands look relumed also.

Other parts looks ok.

Gentlemen, thank you for the hearty "welcomes", I appreciate it. I'm glad to hear, at least from initial polling, that it may just be a re-dial and hand re-luming. I'll give the thread some time, let everyone chime in with input, good or bad. My main concern is making sure I represent this properly. If it's real, it would be good to see it go to a good home.

I just personally picked up a nice '90s Ebel with an El Primero 400 movement and was hoping to get some info on it, so it looks like I'm in the right place and will post elsewhere on that topic

to add and agree with what has been said before me.

the automatic winding devise rotor isn't correct for the watch.
to note the color of the gears and the writing

As requested, 3 additional photos. One showing the crown up close, and 2 showing the model number between the lugs, from 2 different angles so you can see the slope and length of the slash mark.

hand which is correct for this model. Unfortunately the dial makes 1/2 the watch IMHO. This small rose dial will not be easy to find in good shape...nor cheap. Personally I would hold out for a completely correct watch unless it's a very, very good buy.

Thanks, glad to know the hands are acceptable. I anticipated your other reaction - I'm quite certain that many buyers will pass on this particular Tudor (assuming consensus holds that it's real) because it's not 100% original. We're ok with that - wherever it sells, we'll accept the outcome whether it's $400 or $800 or whatever. My purpose for this thread was not to solicit anyone in any way, only to make sure we ran an auction with integrity and honesty. Whatever happens after we establish that we are safe auctioning this, we'll be ok with the $$ outcome.
