Icon19 Great friend and his Rolex.

Have a best friend who is 20 years old and has apparently caught the watch bug from me. He has shown interest in watches the past couple months....

Anyways, we traveled to Monte Carlo and Milan a few days ago. While in Monte Carlo he found a DateJust that we both fell in love with. I believe the dial is called "Salmon"? It is a Dec 2006 model and has box/papers. Very clean watch. No obvious defects. This is his first Rolex.

He isn't a member here, but I wanted to show off his pride and joy.

It’s a pink dial Rolex has never used the term salmon

It isn't the same as the pink dials. These photos aren't perfect, but the dial is more of a skin color variant. Has a touch more tan in it than the pinks.

This isn't the pink dial from Rolex. I don't know what Rolex called it back in the day, but it's referred to as the Salmon dial by the community and the secondary market.

It is the salmon dial. It is the 116234 Datejust. I got mine back in 2006 or 2007. I think I paid around $3300 or so. My wife has confiscated it since and usually daily wears it. Hands down it is a fantastic dial and shines even more with the fluted bezel and jubilee band.

It is the Salmon dial and was marketed as the Salmon dial. I ordered a Salmon dialed Date 15200 from an AD back in 2002, waited 2 weeks and got a 10% discount from list. I paid £1700. Those were the days

It is this dial, here’s the code, contact Rolex and ask them the name. The old pink dial is a bit different than the new pink dial. It is not a salmon dial Rolex has never used that descriptor. It’s a pink dial with diamonds.

Oops, you are right. I just looked at a 2006 Rolex catalog, and they call it a Pink Roman.

I guess I was just so used to over the years of everyone calling it salmon. I will say that the newer year dials are definitely pink in color compared to this one.

That photo isn’t the dial.
The OP’s friend has concentric Roman Numerals and that photo has concentric Arabic’s on it.

You are correct I did not zoom in and thought they were diamonds not Romans. In any case the other member has confirmed using the 2006 catalog that I was completely correct in my statement, as it is described as PINK Roman.

It is a pink Rolex dial.

Also, according to Bob’s Watches concentric dials are those “where repetitive circular patterns add interesting depth to the face of the watch”. That definition had always been my understanding of what Rolex concentric dials are and not the way the numerals are displayed. The OPs friend’s watch, after zooming right in, does not have the circular pattern and so is not, as you stated, a concentric dial.

Watches are little machines that record the passage of time. They don’t have genders. If you were referring to the wearer, I guess you misread the thread title. Also, real men are comfortable wearing pink.

Rolex also doesn’t call it a Batman, Batgirl, sprite etc. it’s the Salmon dial because people call it the salmon dial.

Actually Rolex does acknowledge those other names, search for them at Rolex.com.

The name for the dial is pink. Likely many males avoid the term due to its feminine connotation. Witness the immediate and continuous pushback here, even asking for photographic proof that Rolex call it pink. Quite sure the vast majority of people with this dial call it pink.
