Who's traveling to see the eclipes and where to?

Anyone packing up there cars or heading to the airport to travel for the eclipse this Monday? Curious to hear where you're heading and how far you're going? I just booked a hotel in eastern Ohio which is a 5 1/2 hour drive for me. The hotel is about ten minutes outside the path of totality and about $175/night cheaper LOL. I'll drive ten minutes to save $350. Hoping for good weather. Looking iffy at the moment.

My sister is hosting a sibling's reunion/eclipse party - she lives in Aurora, OH in the path. It's a 200-mile drive. Looking forward to hanging out with my 2 sisters and brother for a couple days. Trying to figure out what watch to wear???

My brother lives in PHL & is flying to PIT to meet a friend, then driving north to Erie.

grew up in Fredericksburg, TX. local paper put out a notice a couple weeks ago from the hospital that they (the hospital) will be prepared for a mass casualty event. 100% caught me off guard. and in light of that, i'll be viewing from my office parking lot rather than driving to my mom's house. still 100% totality, but won't see the corona?

I actually live in the path of the “best “ viewing area Niagara Falls , but will be at work so no plans .Predictions are up to a million people in the area won’t be fun .

I’m in path an somewhat annoyed to be honest. We had other plans and with the influx of people I’m not sure what’s going to be possible travel wise.

My wife planned ahead and bought tickets for us for The Indy Speedway last year. It's a two hour drive. The Governor has already issued a state of emergency and all the news reports say the traffic will be gridlock for hours before, during & after. At this point not sure we will or can even attempt it.

Will be in Upstate NY with old college friends. We’ve been heading to the Adirondacks nearly every winter for the past practically 40 years.

We decided to push the trip back a couple months for this event and move to the path of totality.

Made all these plans last Spring, before the media went bonkers.

I viewed the 2017 eclipse where the path crossed the Appalachian Trail atop Siler Bald in North Carolina. There were several hundred people up there

I’m in Upstate NY. I’ll be working in the path of totality. We are at 100% staffing.
We are expecting a minimum 16-18 hour work day as traffic will be gridlocked.

It seems either everyone is flocking to high population areas like Niagara, Buffalo, Rochester or Watertown where traffic is already an issue and the volume is estimated to quickly overwhelm the area.

Or they are headed to small destination villages in the Adirondacks where the normal population is 2-5000 people and they’re projecting upwards of 50 times that many people and the traffic will overwhelm the area. The scary part is many of these areas are serviced by volunteer fire departments that will have, at best, skeleton crews working. Additionally cell towers will not be able to sustain that level of additional usage. First responders are going to be getting crushed.

Some areas have traffic simulations projecting up to 17 hours post eclipse before traffic patterns are back to normal. And ALL roads that day will lead back to the Thruway.

In some areas people will not even make it up their destination before the eclipse occurs. Past eclipses cars just parked in the road and everyone got out in traffic!

Sitting it traffic all day for a max three minute and 40 second event seems insane but that’s what going to happen. Bring your own food, water and blankets. Leave you EV at home.

Some municipalities along the path have already issued disaster declarations.
A town in the path of the last eclipse advised that it was like knowing your town was scheduled to have ten superbowls being played at once but you don’t know where exactly until kickoff. The problem is so many places are advertising events but many are not requiring tickets so they have no idea how many people are showing up. Some parks are just planning on locking their parking lots gates once they’re full but people are going to still keep coming. They’ll have no way of knowing they can’t get in.

All the schools in my area have already canceled school. Not so the kids can see the eclipse but to keep the kids off the busses and the busses out of traffic. And because teachers and the other children who are dropped off and picked up wouldn’t be able to get home after school.


Bring your glasses and your patience. Have Fun!

I'm hoping in my C8 convertible early Monday, with a buddy who happens to be a professional photographer. 2.5 hour drive to Paducah, we've budgeted 4.5 hours. If it gets insane we'll turn around.

Apparently where we live is an amazing vantage point of view. The city is preparing for many tourists and travelers to see this here. Even my kid's schools are closing for the day in anticipation of this event.....jeez when we had this growing up, the teachers said don't look at the sun, if you do, your eyes will be damaged or burned. So, we didn't look. Today, they even close the schools. Unbelievable.

N/E Ohio forecast is still showing mostly cloudy. I have to decode by midnight tonight whether to cancel the hotel or not. Unless the forecast really improves, I'm probably going to sit this one out

It’s due here at around 3 Pm

Unfortunately it’s very cloudy so I’m not sure what we will be able to see.

Darn it. Sorry to hear that. Seems to be that way for a lot of locations. I canceled my travel plans due to the possibility of overcast conditions. Good luck
