Plax Burress Gets Prison

Plaxico Burress got two years in prison today for shooting himself in the accident last year with his non-registered gun. Yet another NFL story I have mixed feelings about. New York has stiff penalties for this type of crime. However, I heard 3 lawyers on radio today that said 91% of similar cases are not recommended for prosecution. Burress, the Giants and the NFL really pissed on Mayor Bloomberg who has been very vocal about a stiff penalty. He got what he wanted. Again, a guy shoots himself in an accident and gets two years and other NFL players kill people in DUI cases and get a few days. I don't get it.

Quite honestly, I am happy that athlete's & celebrities are having to serve time for crimes they have committed....it seems like this one backfired on PB and his defense team!

Backfired seems to be the proper word.

i've been laboring in 'the fields' of 'justice' for 34 + yrs. and i don't get it either...welcome to my nightmare. i could really crank up a long, technical, detailed, and factually specific rant about all this, but it won't change a blessed thing.

This is tragic. By that I mean, just when the prison east coast all-star team gets a world-class receiver, the QB gets paroled.

Not knowing all the facts, I really do not want to comment on this particular case, however i am glad that punishment is being applied. There are way too many times that people get off with no penalties whatsoever, because of a celebrity status.

I would love to read a technical rant. I would.

I cannot see how "justice" is served by two years of jail for shooting yourself. I just don't see it.

Two years of taxpayer money..................because you carry a gun and injure yourself? How about:

1. Two years of community service?

2. Two years of suspended drivers license?

3. Going back to school and getting a degree or some type of training.

4. Donating half salary to gun awareness programs........

Something that really punishes............., something the person would miss.

Yes, yes, going to jail is bad.............but tax payers are the ones paying too.

Oscar, I am guessing you are losing a (cheap) customer for about 2 years.
