The GMT line has probably the easiest reference numbers to remember. Same 6 digits for the SS, 126710 then, just change out the colors BLRO, (blue/red) BLNR (blue/black) VTNR (green/black) etc etc.

Anyway, it is what it is and I get why for some the nicknames are just easier than using the reference and then denoting the bracelet.

I’ll put it to you this way my friend … if I’m buying a Rolex and there are two sellers with the same swatch at the same price … I’m buying the from the one who uses the reference number vs the “Bruce Wayne”

The reference numbers are simple and easy to remember IMHO.

I have come to the conclusion that people take themselves and life in general way too seriously. Use them or don't.

I generally choose not to use them, but I find people reciting the same tropes over and over about how silly the nicknames are to be more annoying and off putting than the nicknames themselves. Particularly when a thread topic is legitimately about a watch and not the nickname of said watch!

Is it weird that I find it entertaining when others get upset about nicknames?

Nicknames are useful, so I don't have to memorize a bunch of numbers.

I do prefer nicknames that have logical associations. I even think some nicknames are not specific enough, like the Wimbelton can be multiple sizes with 2 different bracelets and 2 different bezels with different materials and still be called a Wimbelton. It's maybe the only one that I'm not really happy with.

Nope, search is hard, it is a service you get from someone else.
Just type "batgirl site:rolex.com" in any search engine and that is what Rolex will show.

The reason people use nicknames is because people usually don’t think in strings of numbers.

If it upsets you that people are using Kermit, Hulk, and Starbucks instead of 16610LV, 116610LV, and 126610 LV, you don’t know how most people’s brains work and you’re gatekeeping. Because the names make it so much more accessible than reference numbers.

I’d argue that it’s more annoying to just use reference numbers when referring to a watch. When I first started here it was super annoying to have to leave the site to google what watch people were talking about.

Hell, I still have to do it for some references and I’ve been here for years.

People are just mad that new people are getting into their hobby

yeah and tbh i feel like it's equally cringy using reference numbers in the real world. for some models it's avoidable and you can say "blue bezel sub" but in your example are people really saying they'd rather start throwing out the different reference numbers? lol

Well if you hate the nickname how else will you refer to the watch and convey what you’re actually talking about? “Green bezel sub” doesn’t do it. “Green bezel sub with black dial” doesn’t do it. Any other description is more unwieldy than using the damn nickname.

So yeah. I think they are saying we should just use reference numbers.

And there are three versions of the blue bezel submariner. I don’t know any of the reference numbers of those.
