Seamaster Aqua Terra Chronometer (Caliber Omega 8500)
I am pondering over the thought of whether to buy Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Chronometer (Caliber Omega 8500). It is a new model in 2009 if I am not wrong. This one no like other Seamaster models hence quite difficult to make decision.
Steel on steel Reference: 231.10.42.21.02.001 Can anyone advise me whether this model is worth the buy?? Thanks! |

If it is worth the buy is a personal decision..
The new Co-axial 8500 movement is Omegas first "in-house" movement since about 1984, and Omega is counting on it to be the flagship of their future.. If you like the looks, it may be a sound decision as their first "true co-axials" (previous movements were add-on modules to ETA standards) may hold their value into the future and be more reliable than the others have shown to be..

I think its fair to say the previous coaxial calibre was more than a module in an ETA standard. Fair enough the escapement was fitted to an Omega 1120, which is derived from the ETA 2892-A2, but it is not identical. The jewel count is higher, and the automatic winding work is more complex (slightly). As for the escapement, it is not simply a module, but the 1120 was modified to fit it, baring in mind it includes an additional intermediate wheel not found in a swiss lever fitted movement.
.....just thought Omega deserved the credit. |

Hey Guys
Thanks for the enlightenment. I further post the URL for your viewing pleasure and so that you guys know which one I am referring. http://www.omegawatches.com/index.ph...001&no_cache=1 In view of look, well, I would say is classic and also sporty in sea sports, with transparent case at the back. If not, nothing more outstanding than other seasmaster like James Bond Collection Piece. But its new calibre movement is perhaps the catch why it was sold more expensive than others. Thanks! |

I notice that their ladies version is exactly the same as the men's? I am also looking at the same (ladies) model. Does anybody know what is the going price for this new Aqua Terra?

Absolutely beautiful.
Apart from the movement, I like the way Omega counter-sank the crown into the case. Nice. |
