Not quite 20% cheaper, since prices are different in EU and US, but should be around 12% less than US AD price including all taxes, conversion rates etc.

OP that is a stunning watch. I have been trying to get the white gold version for some time. I wondered if you would mind explaining how you received the 21% VAT refund. I have had some unsavory experiences buying relatively expensive items in Europe that were sold via the store with the compulsory (supposed) VAT refund via a company called Global Blue. To cut a long story short on two occasions I was not refunded and received a reply that I didn’t file within the term. This was untrue since I scanned my refund at the designated airport machine and received a receipt. Global Blue kept all the money. On my third and last try I was refunded but global blue kept 9% of my refund as an “admin fee” (I got 12%) which irked me so I have stopped buying expensive things in Europe expecting to get the VAT tax back.

If you get a moment please let us know how you achieved the 21% refund since that would be truly valuable information and may rekindle my purchasing while over there.

From my experience purchasing luxury items in Europe, store usually specifies the exact amount you should get back in the paperwork they give you.
I will let you know when I will receive the refund on how did it go. Hopefully no shenanigans )

Congratulatiins! You bought in and exported from Spain and then imported into the USA? How did you get a 21% tax refund?

Congrats! Beautiful piece. Did not know tax refund was that much, I'm assuming you came out ahead compared to buying in the States, even in a no-tax state?

At the Rolex Boutique in Rome airport a few weeks ago, the SA said I could save 18-19%. The retail on the watch in question, was a lot more than the CAD price converted. So with the uncertainty of this “refund” along with some rational thinking, I did not go through with it. Yet.

How was the tax refund process in Spain, did you sorted it at the airport? It is typically a messy process with chances of finding that the tax refund office is closed on your departure.

OP congratulations on the new addition, it’s stunning and a great score!

I bought a few watches in Europe over the years, a couple being from Spain. The VAT refund process is straightforward and easy to complete either via Global Blue’s app or online. You can also go to one of their kiosks at the airport. I’ve always received the refund within a few days.

I’d also recommend that you declare the watch at customs upon entry in to the U.S. I’ve always been of the mindset that the risk/reward is not worth it if you don’t declare. Customs agents have always been kind and reasonable, you won’t be hit with a huge bill.

Wear in good health!

Beautiful piece and nice savings!

Was the watch being displayed, or did you sit down with an SA and ask?

Can you share what the customs duty was? Ie $30k piece from Spain how much do you pay in customs fee at entry?

I tried a few watches on (they had pretty decentRolex lineup) and then asked what is available for purchase )

Seeing many questions on the tax refund amount and process. Will respond to everyone once the process is finalized and money hit my account. ;)
