Rolex 124060 wait

Hi All

I am trying to get my hands on a 124060 for my 40th, so far I have been told an average of 2-5 years from 5 different AD’s so far, after having been on the “list” for four months, is that really still the case, as I have heard reports of people getting them as walk in’s.

Steel sub as a walk in? Quite impossible. Most ADs won't consider you for a Sub as a first purchase. Even with a history you'd expect 1-2 years wait time. If you are a VIP, that's another story. You can get anything you want immediately if you have the status...

Hello,

There is always a waiting period for submariners in the same way as GMTs or Daytonas, even for a 124060.
Walk-in purchases for a steel sub are still very rare.

Delays are variable and depend on the country, the city and the AD (and also on the AD's practices, notably buying history, or the acquisition of other classic models before having access to a professional model).

I understand that generally speaking, waiting times in England, and particularly in London, are still very long.

However, the announced waiting time seems excessively long to me, a forum member living in England may or may not be able to confirm this.

Generally speaking, an AD with whom you have no history and who wishes to sell you the watch without forcing you to buy other models is currently announcing a lead time of around one year for a Sub 124060 in France.

I'm not a fan of the grey market, but for a sub 124060, considering the prices on the grey market as well as the delivery times announced by the AD, if you take into account the annual price increases practiced by Rolex...

Better to go to the grey market right now!

Rolex 124060 wait

Unless you’re a star or a vip I’d say you’ve virtually no chance of walking in and getting one.

Local AD to me (England) says they won’t even take an expression of interest on any SS Sub or GMT at the moment.

I think if the AD are serious, you should wait.
Got mine after 4 weeks wait a year ago. The AD had told me to expect 1 year wait so i got lucky i guess.
Grey prices are not high enough for flippers, so they don’t buy, and there is better availability for those who buy to wear.
Then again it depends on offer and demand locally.

Thank you for your insight guys. I have been offered a 2024 unworn one from friends who deals in the grey market for £9400. It just goes against the grain to pay £1300 over the top just to avoid the Rolex game. But I suppose by the time I had created spend history, or waited a couple of years and included the price hikes as one of you said, I would spend that anyway.

£9,400 is not bad actually, less than anything on Chrono24 at the moment. I’d go for it.

Unless you plan to create a spend history to buy other watches in the future, it's probably just not worth it. Get it from the grey market and enjoy it.

Feels like there have been more Subs available from UK AD's recently but far less 124060's than 126610's

I got a 126610LN last week after a long wait (not my first Rolex from that AD) but I'm in London and that tends to mean a longer wait time for many of us

Buying now might be the best option if you 100% trust the people selling it and want it for your 40th

I don't think the premium you pay now will matter in years to come when you look at the watch

Good luck!

I would go for it.
Just be careful who you buy it from. I have seen lots of backpack dealers with fake watches being sold.

It’s a tough one to decide. I too don’t like the thought of going grey either. But £1400 over list is almost palatable, unlike approaching £3k on a few I’ve seen advertised.

I’d love to know the volume of 124060 vs 126610 coming into the UK. 1 in 10? 1 in 5? Somewhere in between perhaps.

At the start of the year I read that the Goldsmiths branch, where I do have an expression of interest on a 124060, had allegedly offered a 126610LN to a walk in on the Saturday afternoon who had politely declined. The guy had some spend history but admitted not much. I went to the shop on Monday morning and the watch was in the window with the exhibition only label. Whilst talking with the SA about my wait time on the non date Sub I asked about the date version saying “I see you have one in the window” etc. I said I’d perhaps consider a date version if I could get one sooner. Asked about the display one. Nothing offered. Not currently for sale sir, exhibition piece only.

So all the talk of shorter wait times are, I believe, more smoke and mirrors rather than fact here in the UK.

Lastly, on the subject of price rises: 5% per annum increase would mean a ND Sub likely to be £9250 by 2027 perhaps. Can’t believe a three handed mass produced divers watch could command such a price but what do I know? I baulked at a Hulk at £5950 back in 2017 if memory serves me right. Huge mistake!

I'm not sure it's a case of shorter wait times in the UK

Perhaps more that the AD's are getting a little more stock and many people who'd shown interest over the past 3+ years no longer want them so others get the call a little quicker

If you're not prepared to wait, I'd bite the bullet and start enjoying it now.
The premium is not terrible and you'll forget the price paid once it's on your wrist.

If I'm not mistaken, Rolex makes less Sub ND than Date hence, depending on where you are located, the ND might take longer to deliver, not to mention that recently I have seen a rise in popularity for the ND model.

Welcome to the forum

I get your apprehension but with your 40th approaching I’d just bite the bullet and pay the premium. In the long run it’s really not all that significant.

The other way to look at it is that of you wait 2-5 years as they’ve told you, and you factor in regular price increases, you’ll be close to the grey price anyway.

I would buy the watch from the friend and pay the slight premium. Great watch.

Thank you for all your inputs guys. The overwhelming thought seems to be “Just buy it”, and after speaking to a few more dealers today, all with a two to three year wait of at all, I think I will have to bite the bullet and do, I’ll just convince myself over the weekend that it’s only money. 😂

You’ll soon forget that £1300 once wearing it.
A nice weekend away can be £1300, so go for it, treat yourself.

I'm sure you can find one at retail price, market is really down, display prices at the greys are inflated. Don't play the AD game, they will soon regret it I hope.

I really can’t find one at retail, I have tried about 10 AD’s now, all saying 2-3 years, if not more, and no guarantee of getting one at all.

Not at an AD, but at grey dealers it should be possible, just be on the hunt for 1-2 months. 2022-2023 mint. Even Watchfinders could list one near retail, and then negociate. 500-700£ over retail should be easy

Maybe the LN was RRP £5950 back then, which was what I was actually wanting.

It was WoS LHR T5 boutique. They’d just put the Hulk on display, I’d got it on my wrist when the SA asked where I was flying to. I was en route to Italy. Pity you’re not flying outside the EU as you can get it Vat free says the SA. I spent the next 15 minutes trying to book a BA flight to Switzerland unsuccessfully. Possibly because I was already checked in and through security on a Bologna bound flight.

I went back inside to buy it and another guy was just paying for it. As I said huge mistake on my part

Right on Go gray if within 20% of the retail to avoid annoying AD game.
