I’m in the city and inadvertently walked by cantor fitzgerald on my morning coffee walk this AM and it was a sobering reminder.

The best way to honor the victims of 9/11 is to be the people we were on 9/12.

For those too young to understand, it means we were unified. We were all grieving, proud Americans. You couldn't find a US flag to buy, because stores couldn't keep them on the shelves. Yet there was a new interest and understanding of the plight of other peoples of the world. There was renewed, unwavering support for the daily sacrifices of public safety professionals. Crime plummeted nationwide. People wanted so badly to help they donated time, money, gifts, food to the victims, their families, and to the few of us who had the dubious fortune of being able to go there and help.

Today, let's be kind. Let's not let the message of others divide us. Tip well. Offer some stranger a compliment. Return your shopping cart. Give someone a helping hand. Let's look out for each other.

Having been there, I will never forget.

Today, and on every anniversary that has passed I do not watch the news, talk about what I witnessed, or engage in any of the memorials. Most of my day is spent listening to some of my favorite music and trying to keep my mind free of the horrid memories it has retained.

I start my day with a prayer for those I knew (and those I did not) that perished for the simple fact that they were on American soil that day and for allowing me to survive and see my children grow.

I do not dwell on it, nor suffer any long term symptoms (mentally, or physical) but I find it easier to try and forget what happened for just one day each year.

My 9/11 story ..
Firstly I’ll never forget, such a cowardly heinous act ..
I was flying to Houston, met my friends at Gatwick, I was working in Sabine Pass Texas at the time ..
Also my Birthday, was extremely drunk, and we were diverted to Halifax in Canada …
An episode for many reasons I will never forget or spend my birthday the same way again ..
