A) Thieves are scum.
B) Don't make it easy for them; don't be a target. C) Either wear the watch all the time, or leave it at home. I'm in the "safest place is on your wrist or in a safe" camp. D) If you're worried about it, wear something else, or hand it to a friend in your 4some to hold while you swing.

Before I got a Garmin Golf Watch (gives distances using GPS), I wore my Sub-C while playing.

I when I go to the driving range, I normally have a Rolex on, its really no big deal. The only reason I dont play with a Rolex on is because I wear a Garmin Golf watch that give's me distance to the pin and keeps score. I played a lot of pickup basketball with my Sub on my wrist... The watches are just fine...
