Sky-dweller Blue and Blue-green Dials

I recently picked up the rose gold/blue-green dial Sky-dweller, for which I’d been waiting a long time, and I sold my stainless steel blue dial Sky-dweller to help pay for it. It pained me to do so because I love the blue dial SS Sky. But most of us, at least, can’t have or keep every piece we love.

People, I know, have been asking how the blue and blue-green dials on the SS and RG references
differ … or not. And I wish I had taken a photo of both, side by side, before I sold my SS piece. But I’m hoping the two pics attached help highlight the difference. Three things are unfortunate: 1) The light in which I took the photos was not identical, as you’ll see; 2) the blue-green even in person is unquestionably more blue than green — not as “aqua” as one might infer from Rolex’s website; and 3) the camera tends to want to correct for blue and not portray as well as in real life the subtle distinction of the blue and blue-green.

I had to really look hard to confirm what I was actually seeing!

In these pictures they both look like the familiar DJ/DD/SD blue rather than the new petrol blue/green

Both are lovely watches but congratulation on the RG as I think it's pretty special

You’re right! I hadn’t considered that when looking at the photos. But the blue-green dial really is distinct from both the “old” blue dial color and the SS Sky blue dial color. I wish the camera would pick up the blue green better.

Thanks for the congrats. I’m having a tough time taking it off my wrist.

Wow. Needless to say, I didn’t catch just how badly I’d formatted my original message before I posted it. Nice photo placement, eh? My apology to all readers.

I'm personally not a big Sky Dweller fan in general but if I had to pick one it would without a doubt be that RG one you upgraded to it's a beautiful looking watch the contrast is very nice congrats!

Classic sky d on blue jubilee is one of the best watches in Rolex catalog in my opinion. That new reference is awesome too, but the first is just so so good

Love the RG. The stainless is a lovely watch. The RG is a serious watch. Both nice, but money no object the RG wins this one for me

Had the chance to also try the RG blie/green skydweller and compare it to my SS Blue dial skydweller....blues very similar and almost impossible to distinguish in photos, however one can tell the subtle difference in person...

From my pics, the one with the 3 skydwellers maybe best to see the subtle difference of the blues...

From the photos, they almost look identical. Very hard to differentiate. Perhaps easier when seen in person.

Loving my SkyD Blue SS.

Thanks for this. The blue on the RG is very nice.

SkyD is such a cool watch and movement. Hope to add one soon

Skydweller with blue dial and Jubilee is an excellent reference.

Am on the waitlist for the SS blue dial on oyster since June 2021... all Sky-Dwellers are such a great reference. Am really becoming impatient )))

Congrats on the watch!

WOW though. I remember when the blue green was introduced two years ago and the pictures made it look incredibly distinct from the normal blue we see on the Stainless SkyD.

I just assumed the dial would stand out from a mile away but that doesn’t appear to be the case in these pics.

Just saw the blue dial on rose gold for the first time and it was nearly indistinguishable from the blue dial on steel.

I am really surprised by how similar they look
On the Rolex site and in the W&W launch photos I felt the new RG dial looked very different
I guess it was my imagination but it's still a stunning watch Alfa2109

Congratulations on the rose gold/blue-green Sky-Dweller! It’s understandable that selling your stainless steel blue dial Sky-Dweller was tough, especially since you love that piece.

Regarding the blue and blue-green dials on the SS and RG references, they each have their unique appeal. The blue dial on the stainless steel Sky-Dweller is striking and classic, providing a vibrant contrast against the steel. In comparison, the blue-green dial on the rose gold model has a more luxurious feel, complemented by the warmth of the gold, which enhances its overall elegance.

Ultimately, it comes down to personal preference and how each piece fits into your collection. Each has its charm, but it sounds like you’ve made a thoughtful choice with the rose gold version!

Congratulations, it looks great on you. The rose gold sky dweller with the blue green radial dial is a stunning , heavy hitter piece.

Recently, I picked up its lightweight SS brother too.

SkyD on blue dial would have been my choice too if I'm in your shoes, that's a heavy hitter piece indeed, wear it in good health.
