31 or 36?

Pretty sure at this point I will just go to the grey market for the OP I am wanting.

Having trouble deciding though if 31 or 36mm is the way to go here.

I am female, 5'8 with a wrist size of about 15.9cm/6 inches.

Discuss this decision with me! Thanks!

I think 36 looks great on women.
Sporty and elegant at the same time.

I agree with Travis, 36 seems to look great on most women.

31 is nice too if you want sort of a more vintage vibe

36 is definitely more of a trend. However, 31 is so much more classic.

I was in the same boat, in buying a “casual” / everyday watch for my girlfriend.

I think the answer is easy … put one of each on your wrist, and the answer will be revealed.

For her smallish wrist, it was the 31mm … DateJust, Stainless Steel & White Gold with Pink Dial.

31mm is my vote but you should try both on and see.

I started out thinking I wanted a 36 to go a bit bigger, I have a 31mm datejust that I have had for about 13 years.

But the 36 is bigger on my wrist and the 31 seems to be such a classic size, I just want to make sure I make the right decision for long term.

My wife decided on the 31. I tried to convince her to get a 36.

But it's her watch and her decision. It looks great on her.

Larger size watches look great on a ladies wrist so don’t be put off by thinking it’ll look too big. My wife went from a 26mm Datejust to a 40mm plus Omega Planet Ocean and it looks cool in my eyes.

For a classic look and possibly on an older woman (what really is older?), a 31 would look great. 36mm for a 6” wrist looks great. If a bright color then I would say 36. If silver or black, then maybe 31. If you are not sure, then I suggest not buying either.

I am wanting the turquoise which is why I will be paying through nose to grey so no 34mm option.

My first rolex was a 26mm lady datejust that I still have and I have other watches ranging in size to a 38mm Chanel J12 automatic. Just keep going back and forth about the choice for this particular model if I should choose larger or smaller.

Did your AD say that you’ll likely never get one?

I would go with the 36. It'll cost an extra ~$4k but will look great on your wrist. Post pics when you land one!

Both sizes I’ve seen on ladies and I always appreciate the smaller case size. Recently attended a function and noticed a couple of ladies with the 36mm datejust. Just looked a tad too large to my eyes but they were petite women and wore their watches very loose like a bracelet I suppose.
As i understand the trend of larger case sizes is retreating (from what I’ve read on other threads) to the more classic dimensions. I’m assuming this applies for all genders.

Not outright, I have been waiting at several AD for a while including two that I'd spent fairly significantly at in the past although I think one of them has changed hands since I spent there in past years. One of the ones I was waiting at recently lost their status.

I get the impression that most of these are going to guys that are big spenders and hang out in some of the AD's instagram watch clubs for themselves or their wives. Just the way the whole thing works I guess.

When I was trying to follow up regularly I would always just get the same old "we remain fully committed" or "we don't see these often" which isn't encouraging.

I’m a woman and just got the Celebration in the 36 size. It’s a great size for my older eyes, and also to enjoy the colors! But all my watches are on the larger size, from my 38 Chanel J12 to my GMT and Daytona. My smallest is a Chopard Happy Sport around 34mm. I’m 5’ 6” and my wrist size is around 6” also. I don’t feel like it looks too big or out of proportion.

I'm a female with a wrist size of 6" as well.

I have two 34mm OPs. My DJs and DD are 36mm; my GMT and Daytona are 40mm.

All seem fine on my wrist.

Victoria Beckham sports a Daytona (40mm) and looks great on her wrist too.

Resale is better when Rolexes are 36mm and bigger.

34mm or 36mm are perfect for my wife. The difference is subtle, but you may have a preference. Best of luck!

I’m a 5’8” woman with a 26mm, 29mm, 31mm, 34mm, and 36mm…the 26 is too small for daily wear (although it’s PM so it’s really jewelry for special occasions), and I personally think the 36mm is too big (although many disagree). I’ve removed all of the removable links too. It’s not just how the watch fits on your wrist…do you want your entire wrist covered…but also how the wider bracelet looks. My36mm DJ is by far the easiest to read, but is not the most comfortable on my wrist. I’m always aware it’s there, because the bracelet is larger proportionately.

My 29mm is the now discontinued original ladies’ Yachtmaster, so it has a sports bezel and wears bigger than it sounds. In every direction, it’s a perfect fit for me, and is the most comfortable watch I’ve ever owned. I wore it daily for over 20 years. My 31mm is a vintage Tudor snowflake Submariner, but both the case and the bracelet are made by Rolex. That’s also a pretty perfect fit for me as well.

My 34mm is the now discontinued 114200 Air King, which I got as a weekend watch as it has no date and the more robust bracelet clasp. It still looks big on my wrist, but is very comfortable to wear.

Definitely try on the watch. Some women here easily wear 40mm. My husband has both a 40mm Sub and GMT, and lucky for him they are ridiculously huge on my wrist.

So, for me 31 mm over 36 mm. It’s a completely personal choice, though, based on how they look and feel. It depends on the model, too, as some stand out more than others, some dials may be easier to read than others, etc.

Op, I would try on both and see what you prefer. Like shoes or a bag or a dress , you will not know until you try it on, based on your comments, I would agree that the 36 is for you.

I like the 31 size on a woman’s wrist a more classic sophisticated look, like the DJ31 with the blue flower motif with the diamonds in the design with the jubilee bracelet,
love the jubilee bracelet on a woman’s wrist a stunning piece that looks amazing on.

Cheers,

I had that same 29mm yachtmaster I purchased in 2011 and sold several years ago
