Baume & Mercier Riviera

Has anyone else looked at Baume & Mercier lately?

On a whim, I picked up a Riviera in 39mm. It scratches my itch for something that fits in between my abundance of sport watches and dress watches. It's also a modern interpretation of a design originally launched 50 years ago, if that is important to anyone. As an integrated bracelet sports watch, it's also at a pretty attractive price point.

The watch has an impressive 5 day power reserve. I've seen a few things online wondering how much of the movement is shared between the Riviera and the IWC Ingenieur as the specs are similar.

It's a nice wear at 39mm and 10.2mm thick. FYI, I did try the 42mm, but with the way the rubber strap flares from the case, it wears much bigger. I have a 17 cm wrist, in case you were wondering.

The issue with the rubber strap on the 42mm version is an interesting observation. Has anyone tried different straps or bracelets on the Riviera? How does it change the look or wearability?

The Baume & Mercier Riviera is a great pick, especially for anyone looking for something that blends sport and dress watch aesthetics. The 39mm size with its 10.2mm thickness strikes a nice balance and it’s versatile and comfortable for daily wear, particularly with that 5-day power reserve, which is impressive for a watch at this price point.

The Riviera’s design, with its integrated bracelet and modern take on a classic look, is definitely appealing. I can see why it fits the sweet spot between sport and dress watches, offering something unique without venturing too far into either category.

As for the movement similarity with the IWC Ingenieur, it’s interesting to note those parallels, but regardless, Baume & Mercier has certainly carved out a strong niche with this model. It sounds like a great addition to your collection, especially with the 39mm wearing well on your wrist. Enjoy it!

Nice. Several of these formerly crappy brands (sorry) are making some nice pieces now. Not looking at you Invicta, Panerai, or Bremont.

I don’t think you can lump Panerai or Bremont with Invicta.
