Has this ever happen to you?

Good evening, folks.Long time lurker and Rolex owner here.Im wondering if anyone ever had their spring bars fail on them, that the watch falls off their wrist.It happened to my buddy two weeks ago right in front of my eyes.A nice 5513 fell right into his palm.Now I dont know how old those spring bars were(I'd say pretty old), but it seems that the spring inside corroded and failed that there was no tension on the bars anymore.I own an Oysterquartz, so iI fear not this happening to me

Spring bars are so cheap, it seems like replacing them every once in a while would be a reasonable thing to do.....

I've worn all different types of Rolex watches for over 30 years and not once did a springbar fail on me.

Well things like spring bars etc are the weakest link in any watch bracelet but like Larry said very cheap to replace.I remember around 2000 we surfaced just off a reef in the Red Sea in open water and we were swimming back to the zodiac pick up boat and I released most of the buckles on my BC.Next thing I knew was kind Egyptian ripping my BC off and before I re-leashed all the buckles,and was very lucky did not loose my video camera as well.The SD bracelet caught in one of the buckles and the bracelet pin or lug pin must have failed.But suppose they are not designed to have nearly 15 stone hanging from them.But thankfully the pin did fail, I lost a SD to the Red Sea abyss, watch was easily replaced but body parts are not.

Ouch,Padi.Sorry to hear about your SeaDweller.I totally agree with you, spring bars are the weakest link in the bracelet.I just dont think my friend relizes the value of his 5513, he got it in a pawn shop in Florida years ago and it wasnt worth a lot of money back then.

I've taken the bracelet off what looked like pretty decent watches before, and had the springbar fall apart in my hand...

and I have seen springbars that are almost worn in half by the wear of the bracelet end-link..

They should be checked every couple or years, at least...

I just called my friend about the age of his spring bars, he said he bought the watch as is in 1990 and hasnt done anything to it as far as maintenance.So that would make it at least 19 years of maintenance free wear that we know of.This simply confirms how durable and well made Rolex is,who knows how old those spring bars really were, but I guess he went out to a local jeweler and got some generic cheapies.The watch loses about 45s a day consistently by the way.

happened to my dads 25 plus year old dj a couple of year ago. The watch feel off his wrist and luckily it landed on the carpet
